Utter Disappointment. Hadn't been to the Cup for a couple years. Went last night (1/27/2012) and was totally disappointed. My beloved medium rare beef tenderloin medallions were delivered without a drop of moisture left in the meat. I could've gotten this at Western Sizzler for 1/10 the price.

The service was awful. We purchased a $65 bottle of wine and the server brought two wine glasses like they use at Stroud's. We had to ask for a couple nice glasses. My wife then had to wipe the dirt off the rims.

I hate to say it but I will never go there again. I sure wish Bob Rekoff (sp) would come run the place again.

Over-rated,Under-served. I have lived in Kansas City for over eight years, and until tonight The Classic Cup had been an elusive mystery to me. I always saw the charming sidewalk cafe on The Plaza, but had never ventured in. Turns out I was not missing anything.

Tonight a group of six friends of which I was one decided to dine at The Classic Cup. A reservation was made the day before with discussion about our party being seated near the fireplace. Naturally, we were all surprised when we noticed the management putting two tables together in the back corner of the restaurant (right in front on the rest room). Of course after we waited 30 or 40 minutes we were eager to sit down. Its just unfortunate that we had to wait so long for a solution they could have employed the moment we walked in.

On to the food...the food was decent, nothing spectacular. Our appetizer came to the table after some entrees had been delivered, which was the first problem, the second problem is found in that we clearly did not get the right appetizer. Two members of our party were served the wrong entrees as well. We brought this to the attention of our waiter, and no solution was offered. In fact, he still placed an up-charge for adding chicken to a dish that I did not even receive.

A server rotated the dining room regularly filling water glasses, and once she refilled my Sprite, however our waiter never offered any refills to the party.

Overall I would sum this place up as over-rated and under-served, please know that the management is unapologetic about this also. I agree with previous comments regarding the managements apparent aloofness.

Don't waste your time plenty of other good options on the plaza that appreciate your business.

so sad. I have loved Classic Cup for almost 20 years. About 4 or 5 years ago my husband thought it was going down. The service, he thought, wasn't the greatest and he believed it took forever to get a meal. I fought him on it and whenever I was able to pick a special place to go,it was Classic Cup.

About two weeks ago I took my very tired, hungry friend/consultant for the school I work for, to dinner after a wedding. There was a 15 minute wait, not a big deal. When we picked up the menu to order my friend nicely brought it to my attention that there were cross out marks all over the menu. When I asked the waitress, she told us the oven was broken. Geeeeeesh. It would have been nice to know that before we were seated. I was embarassed and sad because I knew my husband was right.

I think Gordon Ramsey should be called because I would love to see this fantastic place saved. Really sad! Who wants to call "Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares"?

We love this place. Whoever complains that this place is too expensive, that statement discredits anything else they write. My wife and I had a wonderful breakfast for $20. Atmosphere, food, and staff were all great. My wife and I took our two sons there last year and were seated on the main level. Some of these posts are from freaks.

RUDE. i was so disappointed because my mom, me, grandma, sister, niece, and aunt went there to have lunch for my birthday celebration. we don't get to do this very often and the people there acted like they were so much better than us - very very rude waitress....the food was not good and overpriced!! i will NOT go back and would tell anyone not to waste your time or money!! I think this place thinks that just because they're on the plaza - they don't have to be nice - WRONG!! There are other restaurants on the plaza that are good and have courteous service!

Class Cup...An Award-Winning Favorite Restaurant on the Plaza. My husband and I could not disagree more with the 12/30/08 review of the Classic Cup, especially about their policies and discrimination comments. We dine at this "favorite spot for many" on a regular basis and have never encountered any of the complaints that were written about this Award-Winning Restaurant.

Our two granddaughters (3 & 1) accompany us frequently and are treated with much kindness. The children fit right in, as this is a family-friendly place to dine. The children enjoy the delicious food provided for their age group.

Our family enjoys dining in the Cellar, as well, with its marble floor, cherry wine racks, service bar and at night, candles. The food and service has always remained exemplary in both the upstairs dining room and the Celler. Regretably, the cellar is only available for open business on the winter holidays and sometimes for Sunday brunch when the deck is closed. The rest of the time, I understand it is reserved for private parties.

Now...regarding the staff, I think it says a lot for the management of the Classic Cup to have a high percentage that have been with them from 5-15 years. We absolutely rate the staff a "10". I need say no more.

We thank each of the staff and management of the Classic Cup for making "eating out" a pleasant experience for the whole famiy.

avoid. The policy of this establishment that was stated to me over the phone today by the owner as he stumbled over his words is that any party larger than 4 will be seated in their so called Classic Cellar. This is basically the dark basement of the establishment. This policy is not listed on their boastful web site or on the door of the establishment or on their menu they so proudly display in the window. We spent $100 to be seated in what we were told was the party room on Nov. 29,2008. We had 4 children between the ages of 12 and 16. We were taken down at least 3 sets of stairs passed a door that went outside to the alley. The food was nothing special and the owner must think it is fine dinning based on the price. The 2 adults in the party had their $8 black bean chili which is basically bean soup and the bill was still $100. The service was slow and refills on drinks were far and few between of course the waiter had to run up the steps. The night manager very sorry and stated he didn't want anyone to feel that they were discriminated against and he would take care of us if we would return. He never sent anything out so when I called to check I was able to speak to the owner. He thinks his establishment is so good that you are honored to eat there. I think they are discriminating against families with children. Everyone seated in the basement were parties of 4 and larger. The interesting thing I noticed was everyone had children. The owner said the only way he discriminates is that he seats all parties of 5 and larger in his wonderful classic cellar. Most restaurants that have open tables of 4 or 2 will pull together. We didn't get a reduced rate to be in a cellar and not enjoy the candles on the table and the view of the plaza and the Christmas decorations. He stated his regulars that have children are seated up in the dinning area. Interesting his regulars another discriminating statemant

Great Location, Average Food, Bad Service. Went for brunch and sat on the patio (this was in the fall). Our server was a total flake who forgot our coffee orders and basically deserted us til bill time. The eggs were cold, the breakfast potatoes were frozen tasting and bland, it was just really mediocre and annoying.

The atmosphere is very nice. I have been for dinner and enjoyed my food. I hope this place isnt' going downhill, but wow. Really "blah."

Good food horrible wait service. Decent food. Really nice seating. But you can get this anywhere on the plaza. The food arrives promptly. The wait staff was horrible except a middle aged black male. My last visit prompted this review. The wait staff appearred to be hung over. The customer service has always been bad but the food was decent and the prices were good. After this visit I will not be returning 3 strikes with the wait staff. They are even rude to each other. If you do go please ask to sit on the veranda so that you can at least have a nice view to go along with the bad service. I can not believe these kids are our future leaders.

Great food & great people watching. We found this quite by accident on our first visit. Now we try to visit whenever we are in town. We have dined there for lunch and dinner and have found the food to be really outstanding. We like the selection of lighter foods. We also love being able to people watch out on the patio. Definitely worth a visit.
