One of the BEST
by kccritic at Citysearch
Out of all the restaurants in KC, I have not had a bad experience with Grand St. It's usually crowded, but it's worth the wait! The food is absolutely excellent, and the service is as well. We almost always get the same server- Steve- and he is wonderful. Sitting at the Chef's counter is fun too. You can see how the food is prepared and also check out how sanitary it is! And it certainly is!
This is the best outdoor cafe because they have the best food and because you are near the Plaza.
butter, butter, butter

Unimpressed with the food. It was soaked in butter. One of the worst meals I've ever had in a restaurant. I was shocked since it has such a good reputation. Would not go back for dinner. On a positive note, the service was friendly, the wine list was good and we enjoyed dessert.
- Pros: wine list, dessert
- Cons: food was soaked in butter
An Old Friend...Rediscovered
by jmweiner at Citysearch
There was a time when my wife and I used to go to Grand St. Cafe at least once a month. We loved to sit at their bar, have a cocktail and appetizer and frequently wound up having dinner as well. In fact, one of our most memorable anniversary meals (August) was spent dining out on their lovely patio. But, for whatever reason, it had been a number of years since we were there...until last Saturday night.
Some friends suggested it, made a reservation and we didn't feel like being party poopers so we went along. Now we are glad we did. It won't be so long before we get back again. Nothing much has changed from an ambience standpoint....it's still big and yet cozy and the same time. The food was quite good. Salad was crisp (Caesar) and a decent portion. I had a halibut special that was quite enjoyable...came with a unique potato and lentil polenta...very enjoyable. Dessert was unique and tasty as well...and our table tried 4 different ones....all enjoyed.
So we went by default...but we will return with pleasure. And it won't be so long next time!
- Pros: Ambience, Unique menu combinations
- Cons: Wine list is extensive...but not inexpensive
A good resturaunt
by scrufy1080 at Citysearch
I visited the resturaunt mid week for dinner with some co-workers that were in town on business. I was impressed with everything except for the waitress and the serving of the food. The food was served by a person carrying 3 plates at a time and going back for the other three, and the desert was dropped on the table causing the desert to fall apart. The wait staff wasn't very attentave like I would have expected. I would go back again, but hoping that I received better service.
- Pros: Excellent Food, quiet setting
- Cons: Disapointing service

Reliably Wonderful
by herenorthere at Citysearch
I've always had a great experience at the Grand Street Cafe. Whether enjoying a family dinner, a business lunch, a romantic evening with my boyfriend or a wedding day brunch with my best friends, the Grand Street Cafe always delivers. The food is great - their specials are always fabulous. And don't skip the Molten Chocolate Cake for dessert. Very good! A KC favorite for me!
- Pros: Great Atmosphere, Awesome Food, Good for Drinks
- Cons: Not cheap, Can be crowded
Mouth-watering calamari, bruschetta and a fabulous brunch make this cafe a local favorite.

The Scene
Grand Street Cafe's cozy patio holds only eight tables, but alfresco aficionados think it's one of the best in town. Inside, counter seats provide a perfect spot for solo dining. The tasteful room is nice for intimate dinners, but can also accommodate groups.
The Food
Grilled beef tenderloin, seared breast of pheasant, sauteed pork chops and huge platters of fried calamari are some of the house specialties. The cafe also boasts the city's largest vodka list, making it popular with the martini-swilling crowd. Drop by during weekday happy hour for drink discounts and half-price appetizers. The Sunday brunch is always creative and includes freshly baked cinnamon rolls and pastries.
