favorite place in kc
by amalbracht
I have been going to Murray's since i couldn't see above the counter and in all my years of ice cream connoisseur-ing I have yet to find a place with the quality and consistent goodness of Murray's. Their flavors are always fresh and innovative and I have yet to have a disappointing experience. Cowbear is clearly a genius, he summed up the chocolate flake fromage perfectly. It may sound bizarre but cream cheese, ice cream, and delicate chocolate flakes compliment each other perfectly at Murray's. So please, stop wasting your time reading review this and go get your own scoop of heaven.
- Pros: best ice cream on the planet
- Cons: closes at 10:30 sharp
Yum yum!

This is the best ice cream i have ever had by far. I make my own homemade ice cream that is delicious, but i can never come close to Murray's. The homemade cookies are also good, but the real treat is the ice cream. My favorite is the Chocolate Flake Fromage because it is very creamy and has a very unique tangyness. Every ice cream is held up to the highest standard of Murray herself making each creative ice cream consistently great. My friends and i frequent this shop at least twice a week and we would go more often but it does close at night and on mondays and tuesdays.
- Pros: most delicious ice cream, Chocolate Flake Fromage!
- Cons: is not open 24/7
Please get over it

The ice cream is FANTASTIC....literally the best I've ever had. That's why the lines are so long. Yes, it's expensive but it's specialty. Please please please go to Dairy Queen to get your scoops.
And PLEASE know that the customer is NOT always right. I just cringe when I hear a customer say that at an establishment. You're not right - you're cheap and really you would be better served somewhere else.
- Pros: The best most original ice cream any where!
- Cons: they close for the winter so I have to get a stash.
LUUV IT!

Me and my family go to Murray's for about everyone's birthday, and on other special occasions. I would highly recommend it for people who want a good cup/cone of ice cream. Yes they weigh the ice cream, but sure tastes good on a hot summer day.
- Pros: THE BEST
- Cons: NOTHING!!
Getting what you pay for
by patrish
You don't go to the butcher without expecting for your meat to be weighed, so why expect other food items to be different? And if it is so expensive please feel free to eat something made from mixes and sub par ingredients. The rest of us will enjoy our Chocolate Flake Fromage.
Great place!

I read a couple of reviews from the whiny babies who "didn't get their way" and decided that I needed to write a review myself. Yes, they WEIGH the cones----Whaaa-whaaa-whaaa! Get over it! If you don't like it, that's fine, go somewhere else. I have been in there on MULTIPLE occasions and NEVER found the staff to be rude. Maybe you reap what you sow..... The ice cream is pricier than some other places---it's also BETTER than any chain store I can think of. Murray's has a FUN staff that has always been courteous and helpful as well as professional and personable. I would recommend Murray's to ANYONE visiting KC, but leave your tantrums at home.
OH MY GOD.....THEY WEIGH THE SCOOPS
by martinbishop
I recently stopped by Murray's Ice Cream in Kansas City and was quite surprised when I discovered they actually weigh the scoops of ice cream....and charge way too much. I ordered a small cup of chocolate ice cream and they charged me $4.25 for two tiny scoops. I was deeply offended by this as a consumer. When I spoke with the manager I was given attitude and told to leave the store and go somewhere else if I didn't like their policy. word of advice...go get ice cream somewhere else. It's good but not worth the price and the horrible service.
- Pros: Ok ice cream
- Cons: horrible customer service, overpriced and oh yeah...THEY WEIGH THE ICE CREAM
Delicious but obnoxious!
by kingofqns
I've never complained about a restaurant or eating establishment on a public forum before, but my experience at Murray's was so bad that it ruined my day in Westport. The ice cream was delicious; I'll give them that. The workers were thoroughly obnoxious though. I've been all around the country and have been to countless homemade ice cream shops, but never before has a portion been weighed! My 2 scoops were slightly larger than golfballs. That wouldn't have been a problem if it didn't cost over 3 dollars!!! When I inquired about whether it must have been a mistake, I had snide comments made to me. The clerk gave me an extra tasting spoon sample as a compromise! Obviously these workers don't understand the old maxim that the customer is always right! I'm not sure if I'll be back in K.C. anytime soon, but if I do I'll have to rip off my nose to spite my face and not go back. There ice cream is good, but not THAT good. I called there to complain without raising my voice and then was hung up on all well!!!
- Pros: Homemade ice cream, nice fun atmosphere
- Cons: too expensive, rude service
oh murray's, i miss you

I've lived all over and have yet to find a place that can really compare to my old ice cream store in KC. Everyone must try a cookie monster- get the best of everything with their amazing cookies, topped with delicious ice cream and, if you're smart, the melted snickers!
Deliciously rich homemade ice cream, cookies and cones in a bright and bustling ice cream parlor in the trendy Westport area.

The Scene
The menu covers much of the wall behind the ice cream counter, so allow extra time to decide. Friendly and courteous young people--or maybe even the owner--will take your order. A few tables are inside, with a few more outside to accommodate the overflow. Expect a crowd on warmer nights. A coffee bar beside the ice cream counter serves espresso, cappuccino and coffee.
The Food
Sixteen flavors of ice cream are available at any one time out of more than 200 total recipes, from customary vanilla bean to the sublime fudge raspberry rhapsody. Get a traditional favorite, such as a banana split or sundae, or order one of Murray's specialties. Smooshies take ice cream smooshed together with up to three toppings, including candy-bar pieces and nuts. A lumpy is like a malt, except the ice cream is hand-blended with a spoon.
