kid's delight

by ddruten at Citysearch

the gen dare may be the best burger ever designed- it is hard to get the kids toi settle down because of the trains. Like the KCK original location even better.

bad place

by dfugitt at Citysearch

We eat at a number aof K. C. resturats and this was by far one of the worst of all. The food was horrible, the place was dirty, and the service was just as bad. They also forgot to bring my granddaughters food and when we called back it still never came. I really expected a member of management to stop by and apolgy ha/ha.Iwouldn"t recommend this place to my worst enemy.

New Fritz's vs Old Fritz's

by Forgirvin at Citysearch

Today I went with my daughters class to a field trip at Science City, within walking distance of Crown Center. I got on the computer before we left and I searched for restaurants close to Science City. Fritz's came up on the list. With the trains and kids I thought this was a great choice. When I read the ratings I came across some very disturbing reviews. I didn't know if I wanted to go to the Crown Center Fritz's. I have eaten many times at the KCK location. The original location is old and greasy but hey, it is a diner and I love the Gen Dare sandwich and it's crispy layer of hash browns.

I knew the trains were something the kids would love and the price is reasonable especially in Crown Center so we did go to Fritz's. There were six of us and we were seated within five minutes even though they were very busy. The wait staff were almost Zen like in their calm friendly manner. A single waitress sang happy birthday to a sweet one year old as she served him a sundae. She didn't appear rushed at all. The host, two waitresses and a bus person all stopped and spoke with our table, asking if everything was OK or just to chat. Too bad no one had a name tag on because I would mention them by name if possible.

The food at the Crown Center Fritz's is as good as the original Fritz's. Unfortunately the reviews about the cleanliness were somewhat accurate. The little card stand on the table with the dessert list was covered in dripping dried ice cream and the edges of the tables were dirty- it looks like only the top of the table gets wiped down. I didn't look much closer than that but I was happy with my tasty food and good service. The girls got BLT's -the boys got grilled ham and cheese. The other mom got a chili sandwich. The girls got root beer floats and the boys got large ice cream sundaes. They have many special diner sandwiches and drinks. As a restaurant it gets three stars but the trains for the kids take Fritz's to four stars.

Not worth it!

by kennamomma at Citysearch

My husband and I decided to take our 4 children to this restaurant when we arrived at Crown Center too late to catch the free Clifford exhibit. We were looking for something fun for the kids (ages 8, 7, 4, and 2) to do since they were bummed to have missed the Clifford exhibit.

It was a Tuesday night & Fritz's was not busy at all, so we decided to try it out. From the get go the staff was really rude & seemed bored & annoyed at just about everything. I was a little surprised that everything was "al la cart", and I could tell it was going to be pricey to feed our family of 6, but I was hoping it was going to be good food at least. Nope! The portions were small, the burgers were disgusting, the fries were cold, and there is no such thing as a free drink refill at this place (didn't know anyone still did that)! But, hey....they did deliver our disgusting, cold food by train right to our table. So, I guess that's really what you pay for, because it sure isn't for the food or service.

Oh, and there is no restroom inside the Crown Center location. You have to walk out of the restaurant, around the corner, and head down the hall to the mall restrooms....which is *super* convenient when you have 4 small children with bladders the size of peanuts!

Oh, and this is quite possibly the dirtiest, nastiest restaurant I've ever eaten at. Our table was dirty, the walls behind the booth were dirty, and the highchairs were filthy. My kids were enjoying watching the trains, otherwise I would have gotten up and left I was so grossed out!

For what it's worth, I have never written a restaurant review before, but I just could not believe this place actually has 5 star reviews! I guess there are quite a few people out there with very low expectations, because I've had better food and better service at McDonald's, and my kids were just as entertained with McDonald's free play place. Oh....and McDonald's doesn't cost $50 to feed my family!

So NOT worth the novelty of having a train drop some food off at your table! I would suggest you stop by, watch the trains make a loop or two around the restaurant & then go eat somewhere that won't make you sick!

  • Pros: My 4 kids enjoyed watching the trains.
  • Cons: The food is expensive & gross. No drink refills. Dirty!

Had a great time at Fritz's

by OPKC at Citysearch

Just went to Fritz's at Crown Center and had a great time. You sit at your table and phone your order in and a then a train running along the ceiling drops your food at your table...very cool. The burger with hash browns on the top was one of the best I've ever had. Everyone really liked the onion rings and shakes too. I would highly recommend it to both kids and adults, everyone will have fun.

  • Pros: Meal is delivered by a train!

Eat before you come here

by ToUtahNow at Citysearch

While visiting from out of State we took two of our grand kids here. They are into trains but the train novelty ran out before the food arrived. The servers were nice enough but I would never recommend anyone actual eat here as the food was over priced and of poor quality. If we were to ever do it again we would eat at one of the other eateries at the Crown Center and maybe have a small drink at Fritz's

  • Pros: Semi cute train delivery system
  • Cons: Horrible food

Hostess gave away my son's stuffed dog.

by DaViDMiLLs at Citysearch

I have to say, my son loves trains so he was so exctied and happy to be there. He was amazd at all the trains and how the food was brought out to the tables. That's where this place hit's it's high point.

The low point? Everything else. The food was horrible and way over priced. The people who worked there were rude and acted as if they hated thier jobs.

But the worst part of our day was when we left. My son forgot his stuffed dog 'Simon' in the seating area. When I went back to retrieve it, the busboy said he gave it to the hostess at the front desk.

I had just informed her that my son had left him so I was puzzeled at why she wouldn't remember.

When I asked her about the animal, she addmitted to GIVING IT TO ANOTHER CUSTOMER!!!!!!!!!!

I can't begin to describe the rage I felt. My son is crushed as this has been his sidekick form THE DAY HE WAS BORN. The worst part was, all I got from the woman and the manager... "Sorry for the inconvinience" .

I'll never go back. If you try it, please go to a different location, this one is horrible.

  • Pros: My son loved the atmosphere and he loved all the trains.
  • Cons: Food was horrible, service was terrible and the hostess gave

Prison food is better than Fritz's

by JRRR at Citysearch

One of the worst restaurants in Kansas City. We had seven people and the only food item that was decent was the chicken nuggets.

  • Pros: Kids will like the trains, milkshakes are good.
  • Cons: The food is not good, at all

Fun field trip !

by kim1822 at Citysearch

My son and his Beta Club group ate there when they were on their field trip yesterday. They had a blast ! They toured Science City, had lunch at Union Station, saw "Fly Me To The Moon" at Imax, then came down to Crown Center and Fritz's for their midafternoon snack. My son always enjoys things that are on the cutting edge ! Plus, he loves trains ! He thought it was pretty cool that you call in your order on the phone from the booth and that your food is brought by a train on the tracks and then dropped down right to you! I have never been to Fritz's, but am planning on going when I go to Kansas City ! Thanks for this very cool restaurant !
