Laid-back, Good Beer. My girlfriend and I just moved to downtown Kansas City and were stoked to find this place. We both got Mug Club memberships and end up winding down here after work at least once a week. The staff is laid-back and the attitude is casual and unpretentious. The home brewed beer menu changes a lot so there is always new stuff to try.

Great location and staff.. Great place to have lunch and be near downtown. Easy to get to. Staff was very friendly and management very accomodating. Food was very good and filling. Portions were much larger than several restaurants of same caliber. Occasional entertainment has been a plus for nitelife.

good beer but horrible food and no ambience. the food is pathetic. it is always dry and i have never had a good meal there. i try to give buisness to the local restaraunts around my home, but i will not go back there again. i have tried to many times and been disappointed. the staff is never well dressed, though most have always been nice. they are always out of the beer that they make there, and the food takes forever and is always dry. i suggest stopping in there to possibly get a beer on a busy night, but never for lunch.

Had a great time. My boyfriend and I were in KC for the weekend and we went to find a karaoke bar for friday night. We were told about River Market and we found it very easily. The atmosphere is great and their microbrews are awesome! The wait staff is very friendly and looked like they were all having a good time at work. We will definitly be going back when were in town!

Good beer, bad vibe. If you are wanting normal, un-original American food, this is the only place in the area to offer it. The beer is not that great, and they are usually out of everything. Last time we were in, and they only had two of the beers they brew, and didn't plan on having more made for 2 WEEKS! The food is mediocre, and the atmosphere is strange. The crowd is non-welcoming and a bit trashy and you can usually catch a manager or waitresses hanging out with the crowd rather than working. The area is great though...you can cross the street and get a much better atmosphere anywhere else...

Beer connoisseurs take a seat--ales, stouts and porters are the preferred drinks at this friendly downtown brewpub.. In Short
This microbrewery-brewpub occupies the historic Gillis Opera House with a good mixed crowd, ranging from businessmen to college kids, filling three large, open rooms. An 80-channel satellite dish blasts music and broadcasts a wide range of entertainment on four televisions. The River Market's own brews include the crisp Blonde Ale, the amber-colored River Market Red and the dark, robust Flying Crow Porter. There's always a seasonal selection of suds as well. This is a popular place for the lunch crowd with a full menu.
