Planters is tucked among a row of storefronts dating back to the mid-19th century. Its hardwood floor inside shows the wear of over a century of foot traffic. While the store has expanded into adjacent buildings, the interior of the primary structure is much like it was over 100 years ago.
The Goods

Tiers of flowers adorn the sidewalk out front and gardening supplies are abundant inside. In addition, gardeners can purchase bulk spices to season the fruits--and vegetables--of their labors, as well as teas, coffees and seeds. Bulk items are stored in large wooden bins, and then ladled into a paper bag, which is tied shut with a string, just like in the old days.…
