I have to agree with the first reviewer here, the food is decent enough but seems a bit over-priced for the restaurant. Nevertheless, if you are in the area and need a place to drop in where you will get a pretty good meal, stop by, especially if you are very hungry.

I have eaten here a couple of times with friends. The food is pretty good and the portions are okay, but we all thought it was a little over priced for what you get.
This fine restaurant is one of the few in the country specializing in Italian food from the Compania region.

The Scene
One of the rare restaurants in the United States specializing in the cuisine of the Compania region, Il Trullo has garnered national attention since it opened in 1994. A unique beehive-shaped, wood-fired oven is within sight of most tables and is reminiscent of the shape of some of the Companian homes in coastal Southeast Italy. Depending on the crowd, Il Trullo gets a bit noisy on the weekend but is quieter during the week.
The Food
Il Trullo features extraordinary Pasta al Forno (oven-baked with mushrooms, prosciutto and four cheeses), baked ziti, Calabrian lasagna, chicken spiedini, and Polipetti alla Griglia (grilled baby octopus topped with lemon, pepper and olive oil, or garlic, mint and balsamic vinegar). For less adventurous diners, Il Trullo serves delicious Italian pizza. The zuppa di mare (seafood soup) is fantastic.

More appropriately, when in Overland Park, dine as the locals do. I travel here on business from time to time, and am turned off by the overwhelming number of franchise dining experiences. Il Trullo is a welcome relief, with pretty good food and friendly, personal service. The strip-mall setting is a bit of a turnoff, but who am I to criticize?
