Great service!

by lizbiz123

Look I love this place and dont get me wrong. But its a busy place and when an assistant is walking me back to color the last thing I want to do is walk through huddles of people having conversations in the middle of the hall. I will always come here and have never minded having to wait. I would rather wait then walk into an empty salon. Really its the only place where I can go to get a color or a cut thats fast I like getting a high light thats better quality but doesnt take 2 hours, unless your with someone newer. Even then your still getting quality color. I go to Chloe the best way to describe her is up to date. She cut my hair like she had listened to me and thats rare anywhere. I have had my color done by Devin and Daniel and would recommend them both. Devin trained Daniel, they have been there the longest as well.

  • Pros: Skill, very up to date, service, always happy to see me:)
  • Cons: not much gets a little crowded but that might be a good thing.

SANTIAGO Creates a Marvelous Haircut

by mmcqueen

Santiago at Mario Tricoci in Leawood is an artist wielding scissors. It was like having Edward Scissorhands working on my doo. He's awesome. I won't go anywhere else now that I've found him.

Watch out kansas city if Santiago (stylist) and Daniel (colorist) ever decide to open a salon. I love my color and cut so much and I will never go anywhere else! They bring something to the table thats unique and I have never had this experience with anyone else! Also Nik at the front desk is always very nice.

Worst Salon Experience EVER!

by fm79

I moved here from the east coast and had previously been a regular client of the Mario Tricoci salon in my city. I thought it would be a no brainer to go to the one in Towncenter but I couldn't have been more wrong! The first time I went in, I got a basic hair cut. The stylist was new (Heidi) and she was nice enough, but she actually seemed to be a nervous wreck. The haircut was okay, nothing fantastic for the $50 I spent. Next I went in for highlights. I actually had the formula my old stylist used on my hair written on a card to give to the colorist here because I wanted to keep the color I already had. She told me the color I wanted was "too light" for my naturally dark brown (almost black) hair and insisted she could come up with something better. Her idea of better was brassy orange highlights as opposed to the beautiful caramel colored ones I went in with. On top of that, she dumped an entire bottle of toner on my head (I think to try to remedy her obvious mistake). With a towel still on my head, she pointed me towards a chair and told me I could dry my own hair. WHAT?? I have NEVER been to a salon where I had to blowdry my own hair! After spending over $100 on a service, this was the last thing I expected. Having been a happy regular at Mario Tricoci in another city, I couldn't believe the lack of skill of the stylist/colorist I encountered here, not to mention, the poor attitude of the front desk staff. My previous experiences at Mario Tricoci were always relaxing and I always got great haircuts, color, manicures and pedicures. I can't believe this is the same chain...this is a very poorly run location. Don't waste your money and risk getting a bad cut/color job! I still haven't found a salon I am happy with in Kansas City, but when I do, I will let you know! Mario Tricoci at Towncenter should be avoided!!

  • Pros: nothing except the location
  • Cons: Too many to list, but here are my top few: dirty facility, unfriendly and unskilled staff, bad customer service, overpriced for the quality of service they provide

Want a quality salon experience? Go elsewhere.

by anabanan

Despite the fact that during my only other experience at a Mario Tricoci salon (in KC,MO), I was treated to my worst haircut ever, I decided to give the salon at Town Center a try. The main draw was the fact that it was open on a Sunday. Now, having returned from what is undoubtedly my second worst haircut ever, I think I'll just work around the regular hours of my usual salon. The employees at Mario Tricoci attempted to cultivate a snotty atmosphere, which is just plain irritating and wholly unwarranted. I can't stand it when the check-in process becomes some sort of test of my salon-worthiness. When I gave my information, the person behind the desk condescendingly corrected me on the name of my stylist. As he discovered, though, I was correct, or at least had been -- my appointment was changed from one stylist to another, without my consultation or approval. This has never happened to me, and it doesn't seem like a professional policy. Perhaps if the first stylist had cut my hair, I wouldn't be writing this. The stylist I wound up with did not have very good client rapport at all. She did not listen to me (Why would she ask me if I want my short hair cut to above my ears -- which I did -- if she's going to only cut it to mid-ear anyhow?), she did not closely examine the photos I brought to help with defining the haircut (Did any of them show 70's style feathering? I think not), and she rushed me out of the chair at the end without asking what I thought of the cut. She did not even offer me a mirror and allow me to look at the back and sides of my hair (Hmmm, oversight or an attempt to keep things out of sight? A quick study at home cleared up that mystery.) The stylist did, however, go out of her way to apply above and beyond the normal amount of styling products. Ick. Maybe, if I didn't know any better, I'd put up with this sort of salon experience. As it is, I know that there are much better options out there, and I'm worth it. We all are.

  • Pros: extended hours
  • Cons: substandard service

I won't go back.

by jvfks

It's such a PITA to go there. I finally quit going. I hate the fact that your stylist does not see you when you get your hair colored. It's ok if you're getting the same thing everytime, but if I'm changing my cut, wouldn't it be reasonable to think my stylist wants input on my color? Also, charging to blow-dry your OWN hair after a color (if you're not having a cut afterwards)? I'm sorry, but if I spend over $150 for a color, I expect to walk out of the salon looking "finished". I walked out with soaking wet hair rather than pay. It wasn't the money, it was the principle. For supposedly an upscale place, over the last 7 years (on/off customer), it has really gone downhill. I will no longer go back for any reason.

  • Pros: My stylist (before she left) was good.
  • Cons: The whole process of color, wash and style needs improvement.

Dirty

by clarkj

I have been in Mario Tricoci a few times and every time is the same, very dirty. You would think as much money as I spend on my color and cut, I could at least be sitting in a clean place. It amazes me that they have not been shut down for sanitation issues. Also, do they not pay their gas bill? What is the deal with the cold water? For a salon that claims to be upscale, it sure is dumpy and over priced. There are plenty of other salons with great stylists. I do not see any reason to go back to Mario Tricoci.

Good salon gone bad

by alikona1139

Very dirty

I have been a long time client of Mario Tricoci, and I have watched it go down hill for years. The salon used to be top of the line. These days it as turned into a dump. Every time I go in, it is dirty. There is never toilet paper or towels in the bathroom. Sometimes there is no hot water, and I have been there in the summer when the air was not working. The last few times I have been there, I have asked to speak with Courtney (the manager) but she never seems to be there, and will not return my calls. I think the salon is being ran very poorly, and the front desk is an unorganized mess. Every time I call to make an appiontment, I am put on hold for a very long time. As for as the stylist and colorist, I think they are all wasting their talent in such a crappy place. They are very good at what they do. I have never had a bad cut or color. It is a shame that they have to work in a dump, and have to put up with poor management.

  • Pros: Technicians great
  • Cons: overall quality, poor
