Don's Plate with Cheese Sauce...heck ya!

by way2groovy1 at Citysearch

not awesome Mexican food, but good and affordable, I have gone there for almost 20 years and it's a very relaxed environment that I have never felt unconformable taking my kids to.

Total Mexi-Fail

by Quammi at Citysearch

I just spent 4 hours at Shawnee Mission Medical Center watching my wife puke up Don Chilito's. It looked the same coming up as going down. How this place is allowed to stay in business is beyond reason. It offers a Bargin Bin of chips which are clearly dollar store quality. The "Hot" sauce is pathetic, the cheese dips are COLD. How do you get cold cheese to be runny? thats disgusting. The taco meat is burn and dry and they ACTUALLY MICROWAVE MEALS IN FRONT OF THE CUSTOMERS!! The cashier reminds me of a worn out lunch lady and they have White kids slopping the food togather, while the mexicans clean the tables... it should be the other way around. Somewhere in Mexico, a chef cries. DO NOT EAT HERE, go to Taco Bell for better food, service and atmosphere. If you include my Co-Pay at the hospital, our dinner for two was $118.00. Try Manny's downtown, or Mi Ranchito or go across the street to Chipolte, but avoid this place like the PLAGUE.

  • Pros: Easy Escape Route
  • Cons: It is still in business

Worst Place Ever!

by CAnative at Citysearch

I agree with SDNative62. It is the worst Mexican food ever. And this is not Tex-Mex food either! I call it Mexican cafeteria food like they used to serve in junior high school. I didn't even recognize some of the items! Although the food leaves much to be desired, it seems as though people love this place! My only thoughts are-they have not eaten the real thing. The one good thing about this place-the people were nice.

  • Pros: Nice people
  • Cons: Food

Good food but a bit shabby.

by royslade at Citysearch

I have been eating here for years. It is a local place (two other Don Chilito's failed, one in Independence on Noland Road and one in the Ward Parkway Mall). The food is different but quite good. It is not real Mexican but is good in it own unique way. The soft drinks are way overpriced but the food has good quantity and quality for the price. Lunch is the best value. Many choices of toppings and sizes of entrees. My grandchildren love the free Sopapillas for desert. Try the Hot Sauce Concentrate for a real hot sauce treat.

Only Cons are the price of soft drinks. And the place is a bit shabby and decor is dark and dated the restaurant could be cleaner

.

  • Pros: Quanity and Quality of food.
  • Cons: Shabby and needs cleaning and updating. High priced soft drinks.

Tex-mex dishes are served at the restaurant that offers a la carte items, dinner plates and a casual atmosphere.

Time Machine and Queso

by donaldsausage at Citysearch

This place is mexitastic. Make sure you get to go orders. That way you can turn your to go boxes into a time machine after you are done eating. I also recommend rubbing the queso dip on your body.

DON CHILITOS IS #1 IN MY BOOK. I HAVE BEEN GOING SINCE I WAS A LIL' GIRL & I'M OVER 30. THE FOOD IS BETTER THAN SCRUMPTOUS!!!!!!!! THE PRICES VERY GOOD, MY HUSBAND & CHILDREN LOOOOOVE THE PLACE & WILL TRY TO GO EVERYDAY IF WE WERE RICH. BUT I WISH THEY WOULD BRING BACK THE HOMEMADE CHERRY LEMONADE, THAT WAS THE BEST DRINK EVER!!!!

Don Chilitos #1

by lp1973 at Citysearch

You get your food made to order, it is made right in front of you, it is cheap, and there's an all-you-can-eat chips and salsa bar and all-you-can-eat sopapillas.

  • Pros: inexpensive, large portions, good parking
