"Famous" because of advertising budget, not because of food

by truekcbbqfan at Citysearch

Lets be honest with ourselves... Famous Daves is famous in cities without good BBQ. I doubt they will survive in Kansas City where BBQ is the only thing that puts us on the map. Daves brisket tastes like beef jerky... the ribs taste like pork chops...and the beans are straight up Van Camps with sausage chunks. If it was cheaper...maybe it would be acceptable...but for two of us it was 40 bucks and it was not even as good as applebees all you can eat riblets night. also...BBQ is BBQ. Cajun chicken sandwich is not. The decor was nice, but I care more about the taste than the wall nic-nacs.

  • Pros: The meat was cooked to temp
  • Cons: price, taste, misuse of the term BBQ

Best BBQ Sauce

by randa16 at Citysearch

I know it is not a BBQ place that has Kansas City roots but man is it good. I would go there more often but the line is usually out the door

  • Pros: The food and staff are awsome
  • Cons: The wait is often at least an hour or more

Slow-smoked barbecue and down-home sides dished up in a roadhouse setting.

by Jennifer Olvera at Citysearch

In Short
Famous Dave's recipes began as a hobby for Dave Anderson, who opened his first 'cue shack in Hayward, Wisc., in 1994. Now a national phenomenon, the restaurants cater to diners who dig into finger-licking-tasty meat. The menu features chopped pork, Texas brisket, baby back ribs and fire-kissed chicken slathered with signature sauces like vinegary Georgia Mustard. Entrees, some of which arrive atop a garbage can lid, come with corn on the cob, drunken apples, baked beans or slaw.

Love this place! Sauces are the best!

by bobchi at Citysearch

We've dined at Famous Dave's more than a dozen times. (We'd go more often if it was closer to our home.) Their food and their service are excellent. They're almost always crowded, which attests to how much people love it. The choice of sauces are great, and they're delicious; my favorite sauces out of all the BBQ restaurants in the KC metro.

  • Pros: Great sauces, food and service
  • Cons: Always crowded, but what can you do?

Worth the wait

by greenterror74 at Citysearch

It may take some time to get a seat but it is worth the wait. Great flavor, generous portions, great service staff. very reasonable prices. We often use the carry-out since we live within 20 minutes.

  • Pros: portions, taste, price
  • Cons: parking, too popular

Great BBQ

by raineman03 at Citysearch

Famous Daves is located directly across the street from the Great Wolf Lodge and I would guess that at least half the people staying there walk across the street to eat. Add in the fact it is also across the street from Cabalas and Nebraska Furniture Mart it is in a very high traffic area which can equal a wait. The food has always been excellent and the service top notch. I drive from Topeka to Kansas City just to eat there.
