Tanners sucks
by fireman4806 at Citysearch
Hot day the day I went there. Was in comfortable clothing...shorts and a muscle shirt. Just got in the door when I was told that I couldn't come in with a sleeveless shirt. My girlfriend had on a sleeveless shirt also, but she could go in. WTF!!! Just because I have hairy armpits I can't spend money there? What if my GF didn't shave her pits? Would they not allow her in? It's a freaking BAR, NOT a 5 star resterant. Will NEVER spend my hard earned money in their establishment. F#$K THEM!!!!!
- Pros: none
- Cons: everything
The best neigborhood sports bar in town
by mo_wayne at Citysearch
I?ve gone to Tanner?s in Waldo quite a bit over the last few years and it is definitely my favorite sports bar. Whenever I have friends or family come in from out of town they always love going to Tanners with me-it?s a great low key neighborhood pub with plenty of character. I?m surprised to hear the previous posting regarding the server that wouldn?t change the station for a game; they?ve changed channels for me numerous times in the past. I also noticed that some reviews were rather negative saying that it?s smokey and that the food isn?t top notch. I guess I?d liken these comments to someone complaining about not getting good sushi at the Hereford House?.this is a neighborhood sports-themed bar folks. You should go there for cheap drinks, decent bar food, catching a game on 20+ TVs, and playing the juke box late night on the weekends. If you want a fine steak in a clean sterile environment then this probably isn?t the place for you. Did I mention Taco Tuesdays at Tanners? WHOHOO!!!
- Pros: Juke box, plenty of TV's, fun atmosphere
- Cons: If I had to come up with something, I guess it'd be no dessert menu
Rigid About NFL Sunday Ticket
by mizzoutigress at Citysearch
I am a huge Packers fan and up until last week I was able to catch the Packers games here in KC at Tanner's. Last week when I went the bar was fairly empty, and many games were on but the Packers were not on any of the TVs. I nicely asked the waitress if she could turn one of the smaller TVs (that nobody was watching) to the game and she said "all the games should be on." I said that they were not ... and she said 'well we aren't allowed to turn the channel on any of the TVs.' I asked if I could speak with the manager and she said 'it won't change anything' ... so I nicely said 'then I guess we are not staying.' We left and I will NEVER go back. A sports bar that will not accomidate its regular sports fans on Sunday is NOT a real sports bar. Maybe someone should tell all the waitresses prancing around in jerseys that there are REAL sports fans that go to their bar because they have beer, food, and NFL Sunday ticket ... if they want their game on and it is not going to bother anyone else then they should be accomidated. Sorry Tanners, you lose out on a number of customers who have been attending your establishment ever Sunday for 2 years.
- Pros: At this point none
- Cons: Poor service, not accomidating to sports fans, parking
YAY Tanner's!
by bsprincess at Citysearch
Been there for lunch and dinner. I've tried a few different things on the menu - everything is great. Their BLT is what I go there for! Oh and the cold beer! There's always a ton of people there, it's a great place to hang out and meet people. The live music is loud, but they don't start playing til later, so you are able to eat and have good conversation!
- Pros: Great place to be. Good food. Great beer! Lot's of people!
- Cons: We always leave when the live music comes in because it's SO LOUD.
people go here to fdrink....r

food is consistantly horrendous...al locations. it is a beer drinkers gathering place to watch sports on TV.
You just can't beat it...
by jl4 at Citysearch
This is - hands down - my favorite bar in Kansas City. If I am looking for a low-key night to hang out with my friends... this is where I want to go! The bartenders are great and the waitresses are terrific. It's one of those places where you walk in the door and just feel comfortable. The service is great and they always have specials. You just can't go wrong with the Waldo version of Tanner's. It beats out any other bar - or any other Tanner's, for that matter - and I always have a great time when I'm there.
- Pros: Inexpensive, Great Food, Friendly Service
- Cons: Can Get Crowded
Tanner's

I sat at the bar and had great service. I never once asked for a refill, because the bartender (Brian O.) was already asking me if I needed one. The food was great and prompt and not very expensive. Great atmosphere because the bartender treated me like an old friend.
Thanks,
Brent
- Pros: Great food, inexpensive , great service
Bad service
by phillinator at Citysearch
One thing about tanner's that could use some improvement is the attitude of the waitresses. Some of them act like they are doing you a favor.
- Pros: big place
- Cons: service, parking
This lively neighborhood bar and grill welcomes families and sports fans for a casual beer and burger.

The Scene
The walls are covered from ceiling to floor with beer mirrors and neon signs. Twenty-five well-placed televisions broadcast at uniform intervals, showing the latest sporting events.
The Food
Sandwiches and burgers are featured, although appetizers and salads are worth noting as well. Daily luncheon specials, such as meat loaf, pot roast and hot roast beef, vie for attention. The delicious charbroiled, cooked-to-order burgers come with a variety of toppings. The Maui-Waui Booga is covered with bacon, crushed pineapple and Swiss cheese. The fully decked Timmy Booga is topped with chili, cheddar, onions and sour cream. The thick, lightly breaded, sweet onion rings are an added bonus. The Buffalo wings are super hot. The questionably named Chicken Lips are actually tender and tasty chicken-breast strips. Order them charbroiled, blackened or deep-fried with your choice of five dipping sauces.

Everything was just average. I looked at the rating on the web and expected a lot more than what I received. Food was a little below average. Serves me right for not going to The Other Place in Overland Park.
