Soooo Disappointed - Wedding Dress – I typically am not a complainer, in fact this is my first review, but given the amount of money I spent I expected so much more and would hate for someone else to have a negative experience with their wedding dress.
I will admit I got a late start to looking to some of the pressure to buy was put on myself. Gwen was my saleswomen and she was very absent minded and only showed me about 5 dresses but it took about 2 hours because she was constantly leaving the room and not around. I bought my dress the next day and they did honor the 10% discount.
I have no family in town so about a month later I came back to the store to try on the dress for my sister. Gwen was very rude and said things like we get some brides like that you who have to show everyone (insinuating I was acting like a crazy person for wanting to show my only sister). It was a Friday afternoon and it was empty.
When my dress was getting ready to be shipped (shipping was $250 which they don?t tell you about), I got a phone call saying it would be here in about a week. I did not hear back for 2 1/2 weeks so I called. The woman said yeah it?s been here for over a week. Apparently no one was going to let me know.
I got it altered there and was charged $100 to bussel which entailed sewing 2 ribbons on the interior of the dress so they could be tied together. I went in twice and it still doesn?t fit perfect but its too late now. The 2nd time the alterer was working with someone else and I waited 20 minutes in my dress to have her look at it ? and finally said guess its good. When I told them I was getting married out of town they charged me $20 for a piece of junk garment bag. After spending over $2000 ? they charge me for it!
I wish I was more direct and could have told them off but instead I?ll I can do is warn others not to let this place ruin something that should be fun and exciting.
Beautiful shop, prices explain it! – The gown gallery staff and owner were nice and accomodating to my BM's and I, their shop was beautiful and they had gorgeous gowns. However, their prices are high! They want to charge up to $25 per dress in shipping when they are coming from the same place and being delivered from the same place. I was also told that due to the low price point of a dress I was looking at it would not be eligible for the week long designer sale which would take and additional $15 off of each dress. So I left and went to another store who gave us the additional discount and charged NOTHING to ship the dresses. Guess they have to pay for the up keep of their nice digs downtown.
Reluctant – Since we are still doing business with them I am reluctant to write a review but I sure hate for another excited bride to experience disaster. Our first experience with Gown Gallery was good, we left excited and felt like we were in good hands. Now that they have our money, wow, it has been a different story. Not only did the brides dress come from there, but the bridesmaids as well; so yes we have dropped a few pennies in their hand. When we went just a few weeks ago for the bridesmaid dress fittings, we were shuffled downstairs, left standing for an endless amount of time, seemed to be a burden to them, then a man (yep, a guy was walking in and out of the changing rooms) started grabbing our dresses and putting them on the racks on the sales floor. Keep in mind these are dresses that we ordered I believe way back in November. Although we had an appointment, there was not a seamstress there to help with alterations (which by the way, those aren't cheap either). Customer service is very poor.
Issues with Gown Gallery – I had some trouble coordinating bridesmaids gowns. The staff are friendly but a bit disorganized.
bad to worst – You could not have said it any better. I found that the “courtyard” smelled of urine. We were also harassed by the homeless on the way in and on our way out. When we mentioned this to the staff, the response was dismissive and inconsiderate, “what do expect for the cross roads district.” That should have been my first set of clues to run. It only got worse from there, I also dealt with Sharon, who I don’t think or feel has a once of politeness or customer service. When the owner is hateful and rude, and seems like she could care less if we were there, how can we expect anyone else to be professional, certainly not Jennifer, or Precious who made Sharon look like the price in customer service skills and she is horrifically bad, we left with our feelings hurt, and took our business to another caring compassionate dealer. If you want to be treated poorly, be taken advantage of, get lost be accosted my homeless and pay too much then this is your place to be.
WISH I WOULD'VE KNOWN... :( – My experience at The Gown Gallery in Kansas City was very disappointing and discouraging...TO SAY THE LEAST.
THE BASICS: Their location on 19th and Main is far from a nice "gallery". The entrance is behind the building and you need to use a call-box to gain access to their stores. The non-bridals are on the bottom floor and the bridals are on the top floor. BUT THERE ARE NO SIGNS! So, after you go in through the 1st door to the courtyard, you have no clue what door to take where. And then, when you pick the correct door, there aren't any signs to tell you that bridals are upstairs. You just wander around until you find a live person. ALL YOU NEED IS SIGNAGE!
HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND TACT: When I arrived on-time for my appt and Gwen introduced herself to me, she left and did not come back for at least 15 minutes. She didn't say "I'm going to go pick out some dresses for you...and I'll be right back" or anything. I have a large bust size and already told her I was aware I was going to have to order 2 sizes up and then have major alterations just because of my bust size. But, even with that info, when she measured my bust...she gasped outloud. She was so incredibly rude!! She kept making crass and inappropriate comments throughout the fitting. My Mom and my friend were STUNNED at her behavior.
No one was friendly. No one acted like they wanted OR needed my business.
APPEARANCE: Their decor is disgusting. Old, nasty rugs on the floors where you are supposed to be barefoot to try on dresses. Outdoor patio furniture for you to sit at on the INSIDE while you are waiting to try on dresses. Papers and trash here and there. Bathrooms were gross as well.
This establishment prides themselves as being "the best" in Kansas City and I beg to differ! They are an embarassment and I hope no one travels from out of town to buy a dress from here because they will be disappointed!! Not only because of the lack of selection, but also in the horrible customer service they provide and their gross "gallery". Oh, and I noticed that they pride themselves as being "Plus size gown experts" in one of their advertisements....HA! They don't have much of a selection over size 12 and if you are the least-bit overweight...they treat you like a (fat) dog that they are disgusted to even have to look at.
The owner (Sharon Miller) should be completely embarassed of the business she is running and the people who are ruining it for her by running it like a**holes!
Poor service at the Gown Gallery – Wish I would have seen some of these post before I wasted my time and I had the same horrific wait time, was totally ignored, who is running that place anyway, nobody there seems to care about anything or anyone but them. It was also crazy hard to find, and when I called for better directions the ladies on the phone seemed extremely bothered that they had to tell how to get in, I mean come on it’s a back door off an alley with no sign, and you have to be buzzed to get in , your right Liz and Jennifer, it’s my fault I am too stupid to find your unmarked location, I did find your competitor with great ease and was treated with respect and dignity, something the gown gallery has no concept of. Care to guess who we bought or dress from> NOT YOU
What a Wonderful Experience – I had amazing, knowledgeable staff support with Elizabeth. She was fun and so helpful too! She suggested I come back to try on some dresses that were coming in shortly and for another trunk show. I cannot wait to go back for more!
TERRIBLE COSTUMER SERVICE – If I could rate it with a zero I would. I made an appointment was there 20 minutes early, which understandably I had to wait, but was never once asked if I was doing ok or told that someone would be with me. There were only 2 other brides in the whole store and I was completely ignored. To top it off 15 minutes after my appointment was suppose to start another bride walked in and got helped right away, at this point I got up and left! They had the nerve to call and ask me to come back and said they had "seen me sitting there for a long time" if you had noticed I was sitting there doing nothing don't you think you should have asked what was going on?? Terrible terrible. Not to mention I was listening to them talk to the other brides and they seemed to really push dresses on the girls even when you could clearly see on their faces they were not loving the dress. For as expensive as they are the service should have been much better and they should be more concentrated on finding those girls the right dresses instead of just trying to make the sell. AWFUL!!!!
Best Service In The City – My daughter and I had been to several other shops looking at gowns but the selection and service here beat them all. She tried on a ton of dresses and they were patient and helpful...even after trying on several dresses twice trying to make up her mind. We got a great price and were amazed at the alterations and how the very form fitting dress she picked out was perfect when we went to pick it up. I would highly recommend The Gown Gallery!
