I would not waste time or money on this place again. During my wedding as the groom I had to help prepare the place for the ceremony. All the preparation could of been done ahead of time like they promised. They told us they would sweep the dead leaves up outside and power wash the area. As the groom I did the sweeping and we had to tell them why it was not a good idea to power wash with less than an hour before our wedding was scheduled to start. I also had to help setup the chairs for the ceremony which was suppose to be done by the owners. Luckily friends and family members helped assemble the chair covers which was suppose to be done ahead of time since we were the only event that week. The DJ was the only good part of the cotillion he kept the reception fun and the crowd interested. The photographer "reflections by joanie" was recommended to us by the cotillion has not even touched our pictures and it has been over 8 weeks.
so beautiful prefer it over pavilion !! – reasonably priced! landscape is beautiful for an outside wedding or if it is raining you can have inside wedding there as well . The price includes dj there is also linens to choose from all colors with out having to rent any she offers her own collection of centrepieces very elegant plenty of beautiful places for pictures with ponds fountains .lighting and outside gazebo is adorable for perfect lone up !
Plan your next event here! – Great location and beautiful landscape! Owners are willing to work with you and make your event wonderful. Highly reccommend!
Perfect Place for a gathering of any sort – This was the perfect place to hold a large gathering. It has a unique beauty both on the outside and on the inside that you won't find anywhere else. The owners are wonderful and gracious people that will work with anything you are wanting to do, whether its decor, music, or food. Will hold many gatherings there in the future!
Amazing PLEASE READ – I can not wait for our upcoming Fall wedding 2010. The process from day one for any bride to be can be cumbersome. Acting as my own wedding coordinator, I researched a lot of places in KC and surrounding areas, i.e. Independence, Lee's Summit, Greenwood, Blue Springs, to name a few. A well maintained web site gets you to the place yes. But common sense, reality, and relationships built between owners or employees and their customers say so much more.
Cotillion Room and Garden definitely attracted me with their pictures. So did many others. I was hesitant only about lack of pricing details. After researching and visiting several in the area or even in Kansas, I ended up at Cotillion Room and Garden. Looking back, the amazingly positive experience I have had, I wish I had gone to Cotillion in the beginning. (This review is lengthy but well worth the read)
My first visit left me amazed. My visit was in the late spring 2010, so prior to a heavy wedding season. Flowers were blooming, grass beginning to grow, people working in the outdoors and inside. A few other potential customers, business associates, and ballet students were also on site and it was apparent each connection was very important to the owners. I was greeted very warmly and as the visit progressed; my stress for the search for a venue was washed away by the warmth and attention from the owners. Perhaps there was a catch.
After visiting the garden area and surrounding property, I was further pleased with the upkeep. There was some overgrowth in a few areas but if you know anything about the mid-west seasons and the types of flowers or such that were growing (which I don’t that much) paired with temperamental weather it is common sense these areas were probably in process of being worked on. The owners were working on putting in a new stone and water fountain, which current web site does not reveal. The owner put this in himself and it is a gorgeous update. As well, the owner was also laying more stone to enlarge the patio area. There were a lot of projects going on. Thus, greenery that was going to grow rapidly as spring progressed wouldn't be a priority. A smart business owner knows how to prioritize and once wedding season was in full bloom itself I was sure all would be taken care of. Their care and attitude toward details in our conversations about the pricing and all they do for the customer made this very apparent. One should look at the big picture.
An all inclusive type of deal, caring and down to earth personalities...still I was thinking "too good to be true?"
After speaking with my fiancé and several family members and yet even a few more venues, I went back to Cotillion the same week. Too many other venues were less personable not to mention over-priced or charging you for the air you breathe while on their property. Again, the warmth and hard-working demeanor of the owners was evident at my second, non scheduled visit.
I can't begin to say how many times I "dropped" by to make payments, update details to our special day, or take family or friends to visit. EVERY TIME whether they were busy with other customers, ballet students, construction projects, they welcomed us in. (continued in comments)
Disappointment – I never liked Independence but the photos of this place that were displayed on their website and others were very appealing so I decided to check it out for my wedding and reception.
Three words: Unkept. Cheap (not in a good way). Dirty.
All the shrubs and flowers were overgrown. The pond was full of moss and algae. Trash was scattered around the grounds. Your back drop is the highway and industrial buildings. The outdoors chairs were full of rain water and dirt, terrible parking lot conditions. Not much of a garden, there is a field and some random plants that look more like overgrown weeds. The outdoor alters were not attractive either.
If you're trying to make a place appealing to the public, keep it looking nice AT ALL TIMES!! No excuses for it to ever be filthy or trashed.
Me and My fiance didnt even bother going inside. It was nothing but a wasted 45 min drive from home.
Terrible place – I have already booked my wedding and reception with the Cotillion. I am very nervous about it...I have already received conflicting information. I first went in to look at the place and was told that you can bring in your own caterer, photographer, etc. My fiance and I then went back about 3 weeks later and as we are signing the contract they informed us that we had to use their catering service and photographer or there was a fee. The contract I have says NOTHING about a fee, which I will not pay. My friend also booked his/her wedding there and their contact does include a clause regarding the 'up charge' for not using their preferred vendors, and she just booked her 2 weeks after mine.
I informed them that since we have friends flying in from all over the US that we need to have the rehearsal dinner on a Friday night, they informed me that it would depend on if they had a wedding booked for that night. I can understand that but my point was that I have friends flying in town and I do not want to inconvenience them. They really didn't seem to care much about that part.
The main reason I booked my event here is because we could bring in our own caterer and whatever else we wanted. It was very nice to have a place that was very relaxed but beautiful.
I have VERY VERY nervous about this place since the service has not been exactly 'up to par', but since we will see what happens. Maybe they will get their act together and stick to telling people the same thing
