Tips for Sonic Drive-In

August 25, 2008

Retro-outfitted servers deliver burgers, malts and sandwiches to your car at this '50s-style drive-in chain.. In Short
Founded in 1953 as a hamburger-and-root-beer stand, this nostalgic eatery is known for its intercom ordering system and roller-skating carhops. While servers rarely roller skate anymore, the famous made-to-order, all-beef burgers and thick malts are still menu favorites. Other signature items include Toaster sandwiches (made with thick Texas toast), extra-long chili and cheese hot dogs and hand-battered onion rings and tater tots. Desserts include chocolate, vanilla and strawberry shakes and fresh fruit slushes.

The old fashioned service is gone. The old fashioned service of the drive-in as I remember is no longer the same. The burgers are no longer hot and leave a "cold" feeling in this tummy of mine. Depite several attempts in the last year, the service seems to be provided more and more by "fund raising" groups which have spoiled the friendly, fast service of the old Sonic fondly remembered. While I am a fan of community support as well as a small business owner myself - often when the service is taken out of any business wheither food or otherwise the product grows cold (literally). All the new lights, sound systems, convienient pay systems are found to be too bright, too loud, and no longer convienient to this once loyal fan of Sonic. Bring back the friendly service in a softer voice instead of the harsh voice that seems to be not only in our radios, tv's etc. but over the loud, static of the intercom that states "May I take your order please" but instead insists on trying to pressure me into buying something more, larger, and with cheese (when I ordered a cheeseburger).

I can recommend one Sonic that still seems to speak softly and provide quality service as well as "hot" burger and gives cheese on my cheeseburger without asking if I want cheese located in Butler, Mo. Apparently good old fashion country service still exists. I hope my hometown Sonic in Harrisonville will pay them a visit and re-establish themselves to a higher standard.
