Better than Gates BBQ!
by eninajsti at Citysearch
Not for nothing, but I liked this place better than Gates BBQ. Such hopla over Gates, I couldn't even eat it. Gates was way too salty. Smokebox lives up to the name. You walk in and smell that delicious smoked food. Had ribs, they were fall off the bone, brisket was good also. Prices good. Thanks for the good food Smokebox.

Laidback atmosphere surrounded by the ambience of Hollywood past you can feel free to kick back and relax.
Everything is served on disposable items (plates, silverware, drinks) so you don't have to worry about the kids breaking something!
Dining room is quaint but there are enough tables to seat medium-sized luncheon parties.
Servers are fast and friendly and the food is always served hot and fresh!! Management is easygoing and everyone seems to enjoy being a part of their team.
You get a large amount of food for a very reasonable price. I love the sauce, fries, slaw, beans...you name it....awesome! I would take anyone there!!!
- Pros: Price, quantity, quality
- Cons: No unless you have an aversion to styrofoam plates
Typical Average KC BBQ Joint
by dickmoody at Citysearch
There's never a bad BBQ joint in KC and Smokebox proves it. A little-known joint near the Airport, provides decent quality ribs and brisket. Sometimes a bit "over-smoked" but not oversmoked like some joints. Good Beans too. Reasonably priced. A bit crowded at lunch sometimes but they service to-go orders fast.
It is a sweeter sauce than some in KC which I find is a drawback.
Brisket isn't close to Arthur Bryants quality & is more like Zarda or Smokestack's and is a bit leaner perhaps. Still a thumbs up from here.
- Pros: Food quality, Good value
- Cons: location out of way
