Tips for Pick-N-Pull

January 09, 2013

Refused credit due to a employee's mistake. Asked for exception, had receipt and was it was refused. Made it look like I was trying to scam them. On the way out they amused themselves with attempts to annoy me with insincere kindness. Leaving feedback with their head office is nearly impossible and they must know that. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone unless they're okay with being treated like a cheap dirty criminal.

Great idea, poor management. I've been going to Pick-N-Pull and the predecessor U-Wrench_it for years. Love the idea. I can keep my relatively junky car on the road for cheap, and pull the parts myself. Great. The problem is, the management at the Kansas City location either can't grasp common sense or is bound by ridiculous corporate guidelines. For example, I wanted a cheap steel rim for my car. There is one on a car in the yard with a completely bald tire on it. Nobody in the world would have considered this a usable tire. The rim is $5 and the tire $15. If I want them, I have to pay $20, even though the tire is shot. I figured that any reasonable manager would make a call here and not charge me for the worthless tire. So, I politely asked two such managers if this was possible, if they could look at the tire. Nope. The definition of a bad tire is only if there is actual cord showing through or steel belt showing. Never mind the fact that the tread is lower than the wear bars and the sidewall is cracked. No cord showing, you pay $15 for the tire in addition to the wheel. Now, this is absolutely ridiculous. In any of my previous jobs where I operated in a management capacity, I would have gladly looked at the tire, seen that it was no good, and happily charged the client just for the rim. Not at PNP. Nobody had the guts or inclination to make an obvious judgment call for me. It would have taken 30 seconds of their time. It just irritates me when a business shows such little interest in helping a long time customer out when there is an issue that is so minor, and so easy to resolve. Just on principle, I found the rim elsewhere in town and paid a higher price, just so that PNP didn't get my business. I'll pay a higher price to someone else who shows some common sense.
