What a wonderful experience. We found Stroud's on the Man vs Food website and we thought it would be a nice, new opportunity to experience a restaurant potentially off the beaten path. Wow were we right and in for a treat. Stroud's North has a wonderful ambience and decor that add to your dining experience. The ability to wander the 18 acres of land that they possess was an extra treat. The wait was estimated at 45 minutes, but we were able to be seated within 20. While looking at the menu, we were able to get a glimpse of what others were ordering and everything looked wonderful. We had several questions about the menu and were extremely pleased to learn that virtually everything was home/hand made. That just added to our love of the place, knowing we were going to be enjoying a 'down home' meal. We ordered gizzards and chicken fried chicken with fries and mashed potatoes as our sides. Not only were we absolutely blown away by the size of the portions (enormous), but also with the added bonus of fresh green beans and cinnamon rolls to close things out and really bust your gut. All in all, we were very impressed with everything about the place and look forward to visiting KC again, if for no other reason than to have another shot at Stroud's.

Never miss when in town.... Huge helpings and good value. Had the filet, and it was cooked medium to medium well perfectly! Great sides, inc. green beans and a killer chicken noodle soup! I tried the chicken as well, but I'm still sold on the filet. And always ask for some more rolls and a doggie bag just before leaving! Make for a great treat at home!

The Best!!!. Stroud's is the definition of satisfying comfort food! I have never had anything that wasn't wonderful. I have eaten at The French Laundry and as great as it was, and I would rather eat here anytime. And Dennis is a supremely gracious host. You have to experience it to believe it. The north venue is somewhat superior to the south one; better parking and enjoyable ambiance but the food is identical.

The chicken, CFS and grilled pork chops are the signature dishes. For variety, go for lunch on Friday when they have specials that you will never be offered at night like Swiss steak...yum!

Legendary pan-fried chicken--and more.. The Scene


Stroud's is a classic chicken joint with huge portions, great food and good value. This location is in an old homestead house and enjoys rolling grounds, a pond and an enclosed patio for special events. Piano players regale most nights. (The South Side venue is a funky little building under a Troost viaduct.)





The Food


No thawed chicken fried here and barely any going to waste--that means massive platters of super-fresh gizzards and livers for those so inclined, while everyone else enjoys generous portions of the best pan-fried white and dark meat in town. Family-style service brings bowls and bowls of mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans and baskets of buttery little cinnamon rolls. Burgers, seafood (fried catfish, shrimp or halibut), pork chops (pan-fried or broiled), ribs, steaks (chicken-fried, hamburger, K.C. strip or filet) and homemade desserts round out the menu.
