Note that this review was after my first visit, and it was only for an inspection. It's great to see people's reviews here who've been going to Jim's Discount Tire & Brake for 10+ years because
really, the test of a good auto shop is whether they give you consistently good service and prices for a number of different types of repairs.
However, my experience was stellar. Like other's have set, it's in a difficult spot to pull up - you have to park on the street if there's a space, but if not I recommend double parking in front of their white garage door (assuming someone else isn't already there) and going in to check in. They'll let you know what to do.
I did just that, and they said they would be done with someone else in about two minutes and if I went to sit in my car they'll pull me in. That's exactly what happened! The Staff was super super friendly (and even called me "MIss" - not "Ma'm!" Woohoo!) and helpful and I was in and out of there lickety split (about 10 minutes - probably would have been quicker if they hadn't had to replace two of my brake lights that were out). As I waited I consulted with them about a dealer-based maintenance plan I'd been doing for the first 6 years of car's life and was thinking about switching to a local plan. They were super honest and nice, and went through everything really clearly with me.
For inspections and they are first come first served Monday through Friday 7am-5pm and Saturdays from 8:30am to 1:30pm. However, because I needed the lights replaced which was an additional $20, they offered to put the whole thing on a credit card for me.

Thanks Jim's Discount Tire & Brake in North Kansas City!!. I just opened this account specifically to give Jim's Discount Tire & Brake a great review. After my experience with Jim's, I completely understand why they have a perfect rating everywhere. Before going to Jim's, I had taken my car to two other mechanics who had seemingly misdiagnosed, tried to charge me for extras that weren't necessary, or included services completely unrelated to the problem in their estimate. Anyway, after researching auto repair shops in Kansas City, I came across Jim's Discount Tire & Brake. I called them at around 2:30 on a Friday. The owner was very friendly and told me to bring it on in. I dropped off my car, explained the problem and headed back home. About 20 minutes later I received a call from Jim who gave a detailed explanation of the problem with my car. He explained every possible option, the price for each option including exactly how much labor would cost. He did not try to persuade me to do anything extra, etc. He just identified the problem, gave me the cost, and fixed the problem without trying to add any BS. I ended up paying a little less than I was quoted, and he showed me all of the parts that were replaced (without me requesting.) In addition, I ended up paying $1,000 less than one mechanic had quoted me. Best experience ever at an auto repair shop and maybe even any business. Jim's Discount Tire & Brake are honest, personable, and a stress free experience. I only wish more businesses were run like them!!…
