Not the best place for Mexican.
I've been going to this location for Mexican about 25 years now. Dos Hombre's was a fun place and Jalepeno's kept it up for awhile. Tonight (My first trip since the no-smoking ban, duh) I got to looking around. And at the prices. Outrageous pricing for a little place in Brookside whose menu has changed little in the past few years (Beans, hamburger and tortillas go up that much?). The service wasn't anything to write home about and the place is filthy. I mean FILTHY. The carpet (Which I believe has been down since my first visit 25 years ago) doesn't need to be cleaned...it needs to be removed. The bathrooms were disgusting, our table still had dried food spots on it not to mention what was on the seats and they might want to consider some paint on the walls. It is our last trip there. Too bad an owner can let a place deteriorate this badly...it was almost obvious that they'll be closing the doors soon.

awesome prices, best service, great customer service, yummy cinnamon mints.
I just moved down here from Seattle, WA so I didn't know where to go to get good mexican food. My boyfriend and I found this little place in Brookside and fell in love with it. The free chips and salsa are fabulous. My boyfriend is addicted to the salsa, which is hand made from scratch every day. You don't even have to ask for more salsa when you are running low (and you will), they fill it up before you even run out. We sit at the bar most of the time and the service there is outstanding. They are always around to give you a drink refill or to take your order and they are very nice and fun.
Jalepenos has become smoke free!!! This is great for us since we aren't smokers. They also have cards, where after you buy three meals, they give you a free one. AWESOME!
You should really try them out. It's a little bit busy on the weekends (friday and saturday night especially). You can't make reservations, but you can order drinks and eat free chips and salsa at the bar while you wait for your table.

This is Mexican?.
If you think good Mexican food is ground beef browned, served on some sort of flour or corn tortilla and then drenched in something similar to melted Velveeta then this is the place for you!! I have no idea what all the fuss is about, even a Banquet Mexican TV dinner would be more authentic. Only plus was the chips and salsa which we received in abundance. We were very disappointed to say the least in the quality of food.

My favorite.
Everytime I come back to KC I always want to go to Jalepenos. I think the food is delicious and the atmosphere is fun. I haven't tried anything on the menu that I don't like. Plus you can't beat muching on the yummy chips and salsa while you wait (not too long) for your dinner. It's also worth it to buy the cheese dip too. Enjoy!

expensive, and okay.
Jalepenos is expensive mexican food - so for what you get I think it costs too much - If you want to eat pricier mex - then go to Mi Cocina - MUCH MORE AUTHENTIC...
Sol Azteca is MUCH better and much less expensive...
The method of preparation for Jalapenos is sloppy...
