Mi Cocina has been closed for over a year – It used to be a great spot, both for food and nightlife, but questionable mgmt decisions ran the place under.

If you're looking for great Mexican, try something on Southwest Blvd, like El Pueblito, La Taqueria, or La Fonda el Taquito, or on Broadway there's Los Tules. All are fantastic!

so glad there is a location here in KC!!!! – I was a frequent visitor of Mi Cocina in Dallas, and also of the "mother ship" MIA's on Lemon in Dallas - the branch here in KC does NOT disappoint! Yes, the Boulevard has good mex, but Mi Cocina is TEX MEX at it's finest, and if you don't know the difference - by all means go back to El Maguey (are you kidding me with that one?) anyway, the food is a bit on the high side, but it's beautifully presented and the ingredients are top notch - in other words - you get what you pay for! Not to miss - the brisket tacos (brought here from Mia's) and the Tacos al Carbon - the Tostados are a treat as well!!!

Can't get enough of – I don't know where the last reviewer was at but it couldn't have been Mi Cocina. The atmosphere is great, the service is great especially once you get to know the staff. The food is excellent, not your typical tex-mex, a little more flare to it. And the margarita's are killer. I especially love the Mambo Taxi. And if the last reveiwer thought they were watered down, they either waited till their ice melted or are pretty hard core drinkers because 3 of either of these will send you on your way. I can't recommend this place enough. The best happy hour around too.

Dragged here twice...never to return – Mi Cocina is average at best. The food is no better than any of the Southwest Boulevard Authentic mexican restaurants and they make this overpriced plaza restaurant look like a joke. The drinks are aweful, watered down margaritas with bottled mixes and prices that make your pocket hurt after only two. You should go to this spot is if you want to be seen and don't mind paying too much for drinks called the "limosine" or "taxi" which taste exactly as they sound, like the backseat of public transportation for $9 a pop. For the entertainment after hours in the basement, my advice is to take a group of friends to avoid unwanted wierdos from drooling on you while you dance. The music was cool, but the crowd left a lot to be desired. I'd never seen a lower class of people in a so called classy hot spot.

Great food – At first the server never came, but the manager noticed and he took our drink orders. He then sent another server over to help us. (Our waiter was new and overwhelmed)

After that, the rest of the meal was wonderful! Probably the best Mexican food I have had since moving here 10 years ago! My husband didn't have anything left on his plate! The meats were perfectly spiced and very tender. Highly recommended!!!

Cosmopolitan Mexican fare ranges from classic recipes to modern favorites. – In Short
Mico Rodriguez, owner of this Tex-Mex neighborhood restaurant went against tradition by covering his walls with contemporary original art and installing an upscale sound system. Ease into the Latin lounge and absorb the chic urban-Hispanic tunes while sipping a classic cocktail. If you're ready for an intensely flavored meal, try the Locos al Carbon, chicken or beef fajitas or the Rico salads, with Mico dressing. Other menu standouts include the sour cream chicken enchilada, and Mama's tacos and pinto bean soup.

Trendy and hip – Great atmosphere...trendy and hip great bar area lots of people. Located on the plaza which adds to atmosphere. A bit pricey but great on weekends for young professionals.

yet another chain on the plaza... – food is crappy and expensive. i think i liked it better when they first opened.

mi cocina added a bar a year ago so it's a "hip" place to go hang out after work. i think it's a joke.

if you want good mexican, go to el maguey in independence.
