My Bordeux was recommended as full bodied, upon tasting it was too young to serve and had very little complexity. My partner's Italian red, again, could had stayed in the bottle a bit longer, and was astringent to the max. The bartender expressed very little knowledge of the wines on the list. Music seemed to be at odds with the environment. I will go to Joe D's next time in Brookside.
Best in KC !. Been to all the best places to eat in KC and every time I go to JJ's I leave saying the same thing. Thats the best restaurent in KC ! The food is awesome, and the service is great. Wine list is second to none.
Wear tennis togs or tuxedos--either way the food and wine take center stage at this upscale eatery..
In Short
This off-Plaza bistro is perhaps the most unpretentious of all the upscale restaurants in the Country Club area. JJ's cellar offers 14,000 distinguished selections of wine. The eclectic crowd enjoys the clubby, friendly atmosphere. Late lunches are popular, and the bar is kept busy in the afternoon as an away-from-the-office meeting place. The paco jumbo shrimp is a strong lure, but diners return for the quality steaks, chops, seafood and fresh pasta.
JJ's.
This is a comfortable restaurant with a great bar, very good food and the best wine list in the Midwest.
Service is usually very good.
Try Paco's Shrimp and the individual pizzas at the bar.
JJ's.
This is the place where everybody knows your name. It is a classic hangout for the CC Plaza crowd and regulars abound particularly in the bar.
The best wine list in the city, a great and attentive wait staff and an excellent menu.
Poor Service. Went there Dec 21, 2002 with 11 others. We made reservations weeks ahead. Our group was there for 3 hours. Took an hour for our order to be taken, 40 minutes for appetizers and our salads arrived before the appetizers. Waiter was sparse. Took forever to get our check, pay and get change. Of course the tip was added to the bill even though he did not deserve the 20% at all. Used to be fairly regular customer, not any more.
Everybody knows your name. A favorite with locals in the know. You can't go wrong here. Think Cheers with an incredible wine list. (JJ's received Wine Spectator's highest award.) The bar has a great look. A beautiful backbar with glass shelves and mirrors that stretch to the tall ceiling. Bartenders use a library ladder to reach one of their 100 single malts. The look of the restaurant area won't win any awards (low ceiling, dated carpet), but the food is solid. Paco Shrimp; Baseball-cut Filet; and simply prepared seafood. It's a terrific break from all the chain restaurants dominating The Plaza.
Rude and Distasteful. I found sevice at JJ to be poor and the help rude and distasteful. The managers language was horrible and appaling when speaking with guests-Maybe he was trying to be cool but I'll never go there again.
don't believe the hype. The bartenders are rude and the waitstaff for the most part need retraining. But leave a big tip or the service gets worse at this over rated bistro.
10. Best meal I've had in months. I'm from New York and this meal was the best to be had in the entire midwest as far as I'm concerned. I would go out of my way to eat there. Jack Stacks is good for barbecue, but J Js is special. Not to be missed.
