Ming furniture, Henry Moore sculptures and 10th-century paintings are among the treasures housed at the nation's eighth largest art museum..
The Scene
Don't let the museum's sprawling floor plan discourage you from visiting all the international art exhibits. When you're ready for fresh air, head outside for a look at the impressive sculpture garden, featuring work by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen.
The Collection
Imagine lounging on Ming Dynasty furniture, gazing at 10th-century paintings, then strolling among 13 Henry Moore sculptures. The museum's comprehensive Asian collection makes it one of the nation's top research centers for Chinese art. See 5,000-year-old art from the Persia, Egypt, Greece and Rome.
Construction. The new parking garage makes visiting the museum a breeze, no more parking on the city streets, it's convenient, safe and well gaurded. With the addition of new buildings and permanent sculptures this makes the museum the site within the city.
simply the best!.
Simply the best museum in the middle of the nation!
They had a wonderful Egyptian exhibit that I was able to attend this past summer. Their permanent Egyptian and ancient culture exhibits are astounding.
GREAT PLACE!. The Nelson-Atkins is a great place for visitors or for people around the city. The museum is HUGE and the grounds are beutiful. There are new exhibits all of the time and wonderful artifacts from all time periods. One of the best sections is the Chinese exhibit that is on the 3rd floor of the museum.. We go to the museum every few months. There is a cafe there too, so you don't have to leave to eat.
One of the country's top museums. The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art is one of the top art museums in the country. It is fabulous and has an excellent collection of art.
Ever Changing. I have been visiting the Nelson Art Gallery for 64 years and continue to do so occasionaly. My children and grandchildren visit from around the world and insist that they make a trip to the Gallery on each visit. The over-all objects displayed there are equal to any I have found in Europe or Africa.
My favorite art museum.. Very classy art museum with lots of different attractions - beautiful architecture, great restaurant to dine in the palazzo. My best friend studies art here. It's free on Saturdays!
Art galore. Awesome exhibits. Usually free admission. Must stop by Rozelle Court and have a piece of their world famous chocolate cake. Amazing works of art and very helpful staff.
