Used to be a favorite......
Until today I would have suggested Harrys for anyone wanting to go out in Kansas City. I considered it an oasis of a fun yes relaxed bar, which is hard to find in Westport.
HOWEVER
tonight i was having after work drinks with a handful of friends, and my martini tasted off. Long story short, my drink was OBVIOUSLY tainted with the chlorine solution used in cleaning the glasses. I still have this taste in my mouth an hour later. Anyway, Dave the bartender refused to comp my drink, saying he couldn't smell anything and that i had to pay for it.
I work in the restaurant industry and i cannot imagine a bartender not comping a drink that a customer has a legitimate problem with. I used to go to this bar at least weekly, and now, quite literally the place has left a bad taste in my mouth.
Maybe this is an isolated incident, but to me it definitely conveys a sense of disdain for the customer. My drinking dollars will now be spent at One80, a great bar across the street.
Cigars, cocktails and chic crowds in the heart of Westport..
In Short
If you open the door to Harry's and get a whiff of the crisp white linens, the exposed brick and the tall tin ceilings, you might expect to see literary gents seated at the bar, smoking cigars and donning cravats. But instead, you'll find the city's trendsters soaking in the upmarket beer and liquors. The side patio seats many, and is the coziest spot in Westport for people-watching.
Harry's.
This is a classic cigar/martini/scotch bar.
If only the management knew it!
The places screams for cool jazz but instead trendy, hip hop BLARES during most of the day.
Instead of the young and middle-aged professionals who used to spend a lot of cash on good cigars and single malt, you now find 20-somethings who usually are working or out-of-work from some other bar.
A girl in the corner. GREAT martinis and the most amazing staff lend the exposed brick walls and old tin ceiling more charm than anywhere in Westport. I read the review and was outragedsomeone thought "rifraff" had "invaded" when no such thing exsits! People are welcomed to hang out in NEW comfortable chairs, an airy patio, or the traditional bar with attractive, attentive bartenders. So many servers flock here to relax and everyone understands this is a classy place you can feel at home. Stuck up guests have on more then one occassion recieved poor service while friendly patrons have gone on to shine happy and attended; so if anything come in for a good time and feel at home and accepted. Come on, sit down, have a drink and talk to the table next to you ...something pleasent might happen!
