WORST RESTAURANT EXPERIENCE EVER!!!

by sleepyhaus at Citysearch

We made reservations a week early, for eight, for New Year's Eve. They weren't busy that night, some tables had two or three servers. We had none. We got put in a dark corner and never given a server. Never. We had to flag people down to order. Worst par - THEY TRIED TO ADD THE AUTOMATIC GRATUITY THOUGH WE NEVER HAD A SERVER. We never had our drinks filled. They put items on our bill that we did not order. It was the worst restaurant experience ever. The manager tried to blame it on computer problems, but why were there servers doubling up while we were alone in the dark? We showed up ready to drop a fortune on tons of sushi, sake, and drinks. Needless to say they ruined our night by having such a terrible restaurant.

  • Pros: central location

Matsu's horrible service

by angie0602 at Citysearch

I will never go back to this restaurant again - my husband and i went in, were seated at the bar and didn't see anyone for 10 minutes - there was no one else in the restaurant at the time! The sushi chef was on the phone, kept glancing our way but did not get off the phone, the hostess stood there looking blankly at us for several minutes - we finally got up and left. I guess they do not want business.

  • Pros: none
  • Cons: no service at all

Overpriced poor service and quality for the $$

by mdorn at Citysearch

I've been to Matsu twice, and i will never go back. The first experience should have been a warning, we waited for 30 minutes after being sat for a waiter to come over, and after it took her another 20 minutes to get us our drink order. After we ordered with literally no one else in the restaurant it took another hour to get our food. We ordered a couple rolls, and a chicken tempura appetizer. We were given the rolls and wondering were our appetizer was. After we finished we kept trying to get a waitress' attention but she was too busy flirting with the other man who had just been sat (at least he got prompt service). When we asked her to take the tempura off her bill she just stared at us and said something about how the cooks forgot it and disappeared in the back without confirming the bill was going to be changed. Another 15 minutes go by and she brings out some cold chicken tempura. The second experience was just as disappointing, though the service was a bit better. The advertised "bargain rolls" are made with very poor quality fish, i got two spicy salmon rolls and chewed on each piece of maki for at least 3 minutes. I could barely stomach it, and this is coming from someone who loves sashimi. Long story short, don't throw your money down the drain. They overcharge you for poor quality fish. (good sushi fish, such as tuna and salmon should have a "zebra" apperance; not all one color and mushy) If you've had good sushi you'd know this place is nothing more than mediocre. The lady and gentleman who make the sushi at Sunfresh around the corner are WAY better, and that's saying a lot.

  • Pros: they have a cool mermaid sculpture.
  • Cons: everything from poor service to poor food.

Never Again

by JDeanne at Citysearch

I went to Matsu on a friday night with a a friend. We were seated promptly and served water. Thirty minutes went by without so much as someone taking a drink order. The waiters and waitresses would avoid eye contact. We finally waived someone down who took our piece of paper with our sushi order but ran away too quickly for us to order anything else. We attempted 3x to waive someone else down and when we finally did, we asked her who or waiter was and she wouldn't tell us. Our food took another 45 minutes to come out and we never so much as got a refill on our waters. The food wasn't bad but nothing to rave about especially with the service that we recieved. I will never go back.

Grocery Store Quality Sushi

by marleys_chica at Citysearch

I would not bother spending your hard earned money at this place. The fish is not very high quality and their rolls are drenched in mayonnaise. The hot saki was luke warm at best! The beef teriyaki was really fatty and had a flavor that is not appealing! The beef came with about 1/2 of rice which is pretty stingy if you ask me. Our appetizer came out after we finished our food, but was ordered first like appetizers would be. The tempera calamari was GROSS! The tempera was thick and tasted like a doughnut. The sauce was really really really sweet and the squid itself was much more like octopus than any squid I have ever had. We then got to wait a long time for the check and then again once we had given her our payment. All in all...TERRIBLE!!! I will never go back!!!! GROSS! GROSS! GROSS!

  • Pros: Umm, their water taste like water.
  • Cons: EVERYTHING!
