More than just a BBQ..a whole new eating experience

My husband and I took a trip to Kansas City just to taste the many BBQ spots. If you are ever by 12th and Brooklyn in Kansas City DO NOT pass GATES . If you do pass the Gates without opening the door you will not know what real BBQ is all about. And if you happen to stop somewhere else in your travel and think you are getting the best...at Gates it all starts when you walk in the door. That's it ...the smell wraps around you. While standing in line you see the menu on the wall and wonder what you should try especially if this is your first time. As your place in line gets closer to the order counter you get a panoramic view of customers eating and the cooks professionally slicing the person's plate ahead of you adding as much of the BBQ sauce as you want . Then it is your turn to order and all you know is order now and take home what you can't eat because it does not get better than this. We tried the others and hands down Gates is the best in town and it doesn't stop there. Your leftovers are placed in a handy serving bowl with the plate as the lid and guaranteed you won't make it home with the leftovers just the bag and then on the bag again is the whole menu, order numbers and store locations and this quaint gentlemen on the carry out bag strolling with his bag and cane saying "Hi, May I Help You?" He knows you too will be back. Thanks GATES for a wonderful eating experience..

If you love BBQ you will love Gates. This place blew me away. Great ribs, great sauce, great service, everything.

There's not a BBQ sauce or restaurant that can compete with Gates. I've lived in Kansas City for 21 years and I've had just about every BBQ KC has to offer and I can't get enough of gates. The meat's tender, the bbq sauce is just right, a bit tangy or spicy, but they have others available as well.
