Editorial Review for Fritz's Railroad Restaurant – by Donna Werner

The Scene
Call in your order from the phone at your booth and wait for the train to deliver your meal. Tracks run overhead and a mechanical arm stops your order at the platform above your table, which then lowers to deliver your food. The boxcar-style windows look out on painted pastoral scenes. Children 12 and under get a free engineer's hat.

The Food
Burgers are the main feature of the menu. With ultrathin patties, the twin may be more suited to a robust appetite. Dress your burger any way you choose, from the plain and simple old-fashioned to the hearty gen dare topped with hash browns, grilled onions, cheese, ketchup, mustard and pickles. Hot dogs also come with various embellishments, like the poor Dan senior topped with chili, cheese, mustard and pickles and served on a long seeded bun. Tenderloins, chicken and fish sandwiches are also available.

I had walked over to Crown Center with two collegues on recommendation from a friend from the KC area. I am from Manhattan and wanted to scope out a few possible places to bring our two preschool/kindergarten age boys this summer. Both myself and the ladies with me enjoyed ourselves as well as finding a hot spot for future visits. We all chose to have chili dogs and were surprised to have the dogs cut in 3-4" portions and laying across the bun. This made it easier to eat like a sandwich. The onion rings were like homemade also. It was "Take Your Child To Work Day" and there were several young gentleman at work with their mothers. We overheard the manager giving the boys a certificate of appreciation and a little speech. Too adorable!! The service was speedy and cheerful!! Overall, we had a great experience and I look forward to sharing this restaurant with my family!

Pros: Kids will love it!! Adults too!!

Cons: A little difficult to get to unless you are at Crown Center!

We went to Fritz's today because my 2 year old LOVES trains. Everything was great. The people that rate this poor must NEVER eat at McDonald's, Chucky Cheese, or really like kids. Hello people, yes this is a diner with diner style food...if you are looking for the Ritz, the Hyatt, or some other white glove that doesn't allow or turns their nose up at kids...you aren't going to find it here. Also, why in the world would people go during the holidays when everyone and their uncle are at Crown Center Christmas shopping. Do you honestly think you are the only hot, hungry, and grouchy from shopping. Also as parents, you know you aren't going for the food, but to experience the joy your child has at the restaurant. This is a don't miss restaurant if you have kids, but you won't find another like it!!!!

Pros: Like I said....best entertainment for kids!

Cons: none!!!!
