a must stop for out of towners.
Whenever my 2 brothers come to town, Lil' Jakes is a must stop. I live downtown and love having such a yummy place to eat so close. Yes it is small and busy but that is the mark of a great place to eat. The staff has always been great and seem to have fun. I thank my brothers for introducing me to Lil' Jakes as it has become my favorite B-B-Q place in KC. And in this town, the competition is tough!

Just Awesome.
In three days, I went to Jack Stack, Gates and Lil' Jake's. Of the three, Lil' Jakes was the best. I went in the morning, right after they opened, and was served the best brisket and pork shoulder. The brisket was tender and deeply smoked, with a bright red ring. The pork shoulder was incredibly tender and moist, with a deep sweet crust. At 4 bucks per sandwich (including a side dish), it was a bargain. It's not fancy and it's a small restaurant, but the food is excellent. I even bought a bottle of sauce, their rub, and 2 t-shirts.

Too Small.
You can't sit down its on the go. Hard to enjoy your meal. The food just isn't that good for all of the hassle!
