Anthony's is Old School Italian, it's the real deal.

We discoverd Anthony's at Corroboree 15 at the Kansas City Zoo. They were one of a handful of vendors that graciously came out to support S.A.V.E. They won top honors in my mind. Anthony was there serving his mom's freshly made Baked Pasta. It was amazing! It was so good we brought friends in the next night and were so pleased to find the food got even better. The restaurant was packed but the staff made us very comfortable while we waited. They had an impressive wine list that was very reasonably priced. We tried an appetizer that was fried artichoke hearts covered with shrimp and crab in a garlic butter sauce. Fantastic! We all had different entree's and I tasted each. Everything was was so fresh and had enourmous flavors. My Lasagna, made byAnthony's mom earlier that day was so delicious. Anthony was in the kitchen from what the waiter told us, who was his cousin. I'm telling you this is the real deal. It's not only family owned but they really work their every day. The restaurant is a great place for a date but also a family friendly warm and comfortable restaurant. Trust me.. it's the Real Deal. They have a private back room, catering, and we notice an upcoming wine dinner. We will be back. The menu is huge and we have so much to try.
- Pros: Good off street parking, family on site, fresh made to order sauces!
- Cons: I just couldn't finish it all.
Just don't go there

Plain and simple. I ordered the pasta with seafood and Alfredo sauce. All the pasta is the same there. What do they consider to be seafood? The SMALLEST salad shrimp they could find and FAKE crab meat (Krab). Whoaa!!! Sorry guys but you italians just gave yourself a big black eye with this joint. Needs to sleep with the fishes. Go to Gorozzos or some other place that doesn't try to RIP YOU OFF.
- Pros: Not very crowded (go figure)
- Cons: Run by
Anthony's is the "real deal"!!

If you want to experience a real italian restaurant in Kansas City, then this is it.
Located as a stand alone building on Grand, it was packed inside. Everyone , from couples to family's to guys sitting at the bar. Frank Sinatra was the music, low lights and the hum of everyone talking and having a good time...on a Monday night in downtown Kansas City!
The hallmark of this place is "family"...not to mention great food. The positive, family like interaction between waiters and management (owners/family) is passed along to the patrons, even those who aren't related (it kind of stopped at the familial kiss on the cheek for my wife and I). Our waiter was extremely attentive and personable with a sense of humor, but not obnoxious. He recomended the lasagna, so I'll have to get that next time since I went a totally different direction.
The food...try the calamari in a cream base with a hint of tomato sauce. It's incredible. The over all flavor was was a total experience with all the ingredients blended almost perfectly so you could actually taste the tender calamari (yes, tender). My true test of an Italian eatery is the meatball. Well, Anthony's passed with flying colours. These had a soft, dense consistancy that was perfectly seasoned ( i could almost swear it had veal in it). It wasn't just a hunk of hamburger. It was so good, I could forgive the slightly over done spaghetti.
The marinara was pretty typical, but very nice, in that it was smooth, low on acid and had a hint of parmesan. So, typical is not an entirely bad thing. I enjoyed the whole meatball/spaghetti thing. And you would, too.
As Italian in Kansas City goes...not cordon bleu, but perfectly real Italian.
- Pros: ambience, service, food, clientele
- Cons: none
