Kearney >Platte-Clay Electric Co-Op
Levelized billing allows co-op members to pay the same amount, based on past annual usage, over 12 months. That helps families avoid spikes caused by hot or cold weather. The accounts are "trued up" every year. If the member uses less electricity, they get a refund and the amount billed each month is lower. If the member uses more electricity, the difference is paid and the monthly amount raised. If the member moves, then the account also is trued up. It is a benefit that tends to work well for members who want to have the same costs for service every month. Members are not charged for electricity not consumed.
Do not do business with Platte-Clay Electric. After being a customer for a little over 2 years Platte-Clay Electric Co-Op sent me a bill for $601.12. They explained to me that I was being punished for using a service called "Average Payment Plan". When I signed up I was attempting to make my electric bill more reasonable and not to be slapped in the face with an outrageous bill. I pay my bills electronically, on time, and every month. Their customer service is too stupid to understand this concept and forced me to pay $601.12 or face a collection agency. DO NOT do business with these people. Kansas City Power & Light covers the same area as Platte-Clay Electric Co-Op and KCP&L has lower rates. Save money every month and avoid paying an outrageous penalty after you move and have to cancel your service.
