Best Facial. My husband I recently attended the hotel for the Valentine's package. The facial was awesome so I can only imagine a hot stone therapy massage. My husband got the back rub and it was excellent. I would go back for the spa alone but the hotel was fun. We plan to return but a hot stone massage next time.

Gross Hotel Room and outdated spa. My husband planned this trip for our anniversary. We stayed on the 3rd floor for the VIP. it was nice to have the breakfast and snacks with the bar included, but the hotel room with the jacuzzi was GROSS! The bedding had holes in the blankets and was dirty. There were stains on the comforter. I removed it from the bed. What was upsetting is that it was a really expesive room. I went to the spa and it needs to be updated. It was kind of dirty too. The mud bath had rust around the edging of the tub, and the flooring was gross. I really thought that it was too expensive for what you got. I would not go back to the Elms. It was too expensive with a MOTEL like atmosphere in the the room. Also, they had a problem with the fire alarms. They went off numerous times, even during our 5 course dinner. The town is awful with nothing to do or see. Our bill for the spa and two nights in the "luxury jacuzzi" room was about $1000.00. It was not worth it at all!

Fun for unique experience. Out of the way of the big city.. GOOD:

We went there for our anniversary last year and will probably go back this year. We had a great time because it fit our needs perfectly. It's not a chain like Marriott -- it's unique. We like that. It has nice rooms. They have a history to them, which adds a bit of charm. The restaurant served great food, and though we showed up at a late hour, we were treated very well. There is an old, unusual, but well-maintained pool and hot tub in the basement. That was a lot of fun for just the two of us. The hotel was quiet and secluded from the big city.

If you are looking for a rip-snorting time, go somewhere else. The town is interesting, but not much to do there in the way of shopping and night-life. It's relatively small. Maybe that's why Truman liked it. We like places like that., too.

We had fun just chilling in the room, watching movies, checking our email and relaxing in the hot tub and pool, and thinking about the history of the hotel and all the famoous people who had stayed there over the years.

Our lives back in the real world of a big city are very hectic. We stayed 2 nights & 3 days last August away from the rodent race.

NOT AS GOOD:

The one staff person in charge of the spa on the night we went down there was a real snot. So, we just did something else. Her loss. No moolah that night for her. Not a biggie in our minds. We'll try it again this year and see if we get someone nicer.

Secondly -- This may or may not be a negative, it is just a matter of your perspective, but the place is old. That is part of it's charm for us. If you want a brand new, state of the art environment, go to Holiday Inn or DoubleTree. The Elms is not falling apart, but it's old. It's an antique. A bit of history. If you want the bright city night life, go into KC to the Plaza and go to the jazz clubs. Been there, done that. But we didn't have to fight the big city traffic at the Elms.

It would make a fun conference location, too. Different.

Totally and completely not worth the drive. I am pretty picky when it comes to spas but this one was beyond hope for me. The main entrance to the spa is absolutely gorgeous but once I was taken back to the area for my massage - I thought I was in a hospital with bad carpet. Awful ambiance for the massage, it was such a bright room! The manicure and pedicure area also left something to be desired. Overall, I will never go back and I can't imagine willingly travelling the distance for that.

Old fashioned wellness. This place is awesome. Like something out of the movies. European lap pool, massages, facials, pedicures, vichy showers etc .... The works. And well worth the visit to the historic hotel!
