Terrible service-rude. A group of nine of us made reservations for dinner at 6:30, we got there a bit early and were surprisingly seated quickly. We were rushed through the whole time. Another large party was coming in and they wanted our seats-so we were told by our waitress that we needed to leave. I had not yet finished my dinner, yet she stood there staring at us to get up and handed us boxes. They had already brought the other party back, so they were standing like vultures peering at our seats. Rude, horrible, terrible experience, we were not even ther 45 minutes when we were asked to get up and leave. I guess the $40 I spent on my single dinner (including the 18% gratuity and extra service fee didn't mean much for their business.
Bad service, bizarre management.
We went as a group of 8, had a reservation for 7pm. Arrived on time, even a few minutes early, and still had to wait 10+ minutes for our table to be made ready in a half-empty dining room.
The food was very good - our main problem was the service. First, the waiter totally forgot to put in my drink order, had to remind him. No big deal. Then the food comes out and half of my order (had ordered 2 sushi rolls) is missing. I had to flag down the waiter several minutes later to remind him, he disappeared for several minutes more and came back to say that the kitchen had put my roll on the plate of someone else in our party. Ordinarily I'd roll with it (no pun intended) but I don't really know the other guy and he'd already picked at it, so I had to ask the waiter to please just get me a new plate of what I ordered. The waiter seemed disappointed that I wouldn't just take the other person's picked-at food and be happy.
Then! The waiter comes and tells the other guy, I'm sorry, I need to take the mistake-roll away or else we'll have to charge you for it. This person had two rolls on his plate, one he ordered and one he didn't - the waiter insisted on taking the ENTIRE PLATE back to the kitchen to scrape off the incorrect one, and bring it back after he was done. WTF? "Hey, we made a mistake, but let me take the dinner you're not done eating back to the kitchen for a few minutes."
My dinner finally came out after everyone else was done eating. We asked for a manager and she said it really was their policy to have to take 'wrong' food back to the kitchen despite not being able to serve it to anyone else. She didn't want to offer a discount for either that or the many mistakes the waiter made on my drink/dinner, but we politely insisted and she took off 50% of my food only. OK, thanks - won't be back, and will be sure to write about our experience there.
Save your money. I accompanied my neighbors for a late afternoon birthday, & anniversary celebration lunch. Upon arrival, we were greeted and seated immediately - but we were the ONLY customers. It was the WORST service I have ever experienced anywhere in the KC area in 30+ years. During our meal, the staff came out with cans of furniture spray and commenced to using it within arm's reach of our food. Our waiter assumed we were finished or should I say wanted to hurry us to finish and brought our ticket to us without asking once if we needed or wanted anything, which we did - mistake. One of our party had never had Fried Ice-Cream so we ordered it for dessert. It came to us not fried. The pastry was cold and doughy, not golden brown. We asked to see the manager, whom came to the table, explained to her our dissapointment with the experience, service & food. She looked at us expressionless and proceeded to recite what she obviously had many times before sorry, she would take the dessert off the check...staff has to clean the dining area...could not have cared less. I would like to comment that the staff was constantly on private cell phones, at one time every employee at the same time. This was while we tried to get the attention of SOMEONE for drink refills. Horrible staff. Will not recommend this place to anyone and will go out of my way to inform persons to steer clear. P/S - the food was nothing special and overpriced
Very poor customer service.
We waited to be seated fifteen minutes in a lobby full of people. The restaurant was half empty.
The waiter took our drink order and brought them. He did not come back. Ten minutes later we were able to catch his attention and asked for our check. We told him we would pay for our drinks and go somewhere else to eat because we were experiencing very slow service. The waiter was immediately angry, brought our check in a leather folder which he threw at my wife. (didn't hit her). We won't be back
customer Service. This message is for Jud c. or Julie; which ever one you are using as your username or both. Please contact me at hnguyen@stixdining. I am leaving you another review as I have done on many sites now in response to your comment. I am doing this to address your situation where you did not know why you couldn't get a 21 dollar bottle of sake for the same price as the 12.99 that we were sold out of that sunday night. The number you left me is invalid therefore I have not been able to reach you. I have also emailed you on sites that have provided one. As soon as you can call or email me the faster I can address your concerns.
Poor Customer Service at Stix. On July 12th, my colleagues and I decided to try Stix for the first time. Unfortunately, we did not have a good experience. Their bar was not fully stocked, and did not carry several liquors, including sake that is listed on their menu. When we tried to ask for a substitution for the same price as the out of stock cold sake (a difference of $8) the management said no. Not all of our Sushi choices were delivered to our table. We had to request our Sushi order menu be shown to us, and the waitress explained the chef overlooked the other items. No amends were offered until the very end. The assistant manager, Jeremy, offered us a round of drinks on the house. I pointed out that the round of drinks would exceed the price difference of the sake substitute ($8), but he still refused to supply the substituted Sake. My lone martini was $10. We did not understand their reasoning, especially when we spent alot of money, and would have spent more if they had tried to accomodate us. I tried to contact the manager Hoang on Monday, but he was too busy to accept my call.

Disappointing for Sushi.
This restaurant is in the Legends Mall in West KC adjacent to the Kansas Speedway. The decor is contemporary, if not a little dark with low voltage halogens lighting each table. The menu is a variety of asian including hibachi, chinese and sushi. We went there specifically for sushi.
While the prices seem reasonable, and the portions acceptable, the sushi from Stix was underseasoned and tasteless. We ordered ala carte from the sushi menu. When an establishment serves improperly seasoned rice, the entire meal falls short. We will avoid this one.
Best Japanese Steakhouse in KC!!!. Located in the Legends shopping plaza in KC, KS it is central and easy to get to. The parking is hell however as the restaurant is lined up with other popular restaurants. The service is quick and the chefs are typical but still entertaining. The food portions are large (expect leftovers) and the food is moderately priced (16.00 for Teryaki Chicken, 22.00 for Steak, etc). The bar drinks are over priced (10.00 + and little booze) but otherwise it is a fantastic experience. A wonderful first date idea! I have tried Harau's Steakhouse in OP, Hibatchi on the Plaza, and Benihana's in San Diego (and other locations) and I would rank Stix as my favorite! Fresh food, great staff, and a fun time! Enjoy!
