This restaurant treat customers differently..
My family of 4 adults and 1 baby went there once and we won't go there anymore. First we are not Koreans, but love Korean food.
We ordered four entrees that day. They first started the side dishes. I understand what side dish means, but the amount was way too small, equals to one small bite of each person only. The waitress who never smiled during the whole time we were there, served four pieces of egg rolls for four of us, which was one piece for one person.
We didn't feel wrong until we saw the other table. There was a Korean lady at that table - the waitress cheerfully talked with her in Korean. That lady was by herself. She ordered one entree, however the side dish she was given was much more than four of us. For the egg rolls, she herself was given three pieces.
This kind of situation doesn't make me feel comfortable. The way the restaurant judge its customers and then provide different service is not "nice" - to say it in the kindest way.
That was my true experience. I hope if any of you go there won't be treated this way.…
GOOD FOOD. I love korean food. My friend took me here last year and I had an awesome time. They gave you a bunch of side dishes and I was kinda full eating them before our main our came out. I had bbq ribs and it was yummy! The price was expensive here though. I would say the service is not all great but the food is definitely something you want to try on. Maybe I'll come back here again next time. It is authentic food but I wish the waiters can come to you quicker when you ring the bell =]…
Authentic Korean. This is a very authentic Korean Restaurant, so for those expecting to get treated like Johnson County royalty, they need to get over themselves. Bulgogi, Jaeyuk Boggum, Kim-Chi are all excellent as well as the other fare. I have a group of 12 from work that goes and eats there, with usually 7-8 in attendence at one time. Their lunch box specials are just the right amount for a great price. You walk out feeling mildly full but your taste buds have been given so many treats.…
KOREAN MOM SAYS IT'S GREAT KOREAN FOOD.
I found this place via internet and took my mom there (she's from Seoul). They gave us directions via phone. The food was great!
Since we were eating Kalbi (GREAT beef ribs,) and Cornish game hen stuffed chestnut, date and rice with ginseng soup, a spicy fish and tofu soup with ALOT of fish eggs/cavier, and a seafood pancake dish (shrimp and calamari) we found the prices reasonable. We actually ended up taking a lot of our order home as we got almost full on the side dishes alone (lettuce and a spicy sauce to make a rice wrap, bean sprout mixture, fried egg rolled (not egg roll), and more. They even gave us more of one side dish that is my favorite!
We told them about the poor reviewer who only got one side dish. He must have ordered the 'box/lunch special.' It comes with only one side dish. Another lunch order comes with 4 side dishes and if you order dinner it comes with six side dishes!
We ordered dinner! Maybe it helped that Mom is Korean, but I am not. They were helpful with directions b/c the restaurant is not noticable from Mapquest directions. They were patient when we couldn't make up our minds, and when we waved for their attention we got it and what we needed such as more rice and more cold barley tea.
My Korean mom said the food was a good as Korea. I know the food was as good as any I have eaten such as Chicago and New York City Korean restaurants. (Actually, it was better than what I had in NYC).
My mom hopes I get the job I interviewed for in KC (why I was there; she came along b/c my next stop was to see her grandkids). She wants to be able to visit me and eat there often!!! And to take MY Korean Grandmother there to eat next time!!!
I highly reccommend it. If it's your first time eat the Kalbi! Even my Iowa farmer dad loves that and this place did an EXCEPTIONAL job of it!…
Well it doesn't have much competition.....
Choga's located at 103rd and Metcalf, look around and there's also another Korean resturant across the intersection named Rainbow( its more of a lunch place) and there's an Oriental SUPER market
runned by Koreans.
Choga though is a good evening place to go with friends and family, definetly not by yourself, since the service can be really neglectful at times. The service can be depressing but you just need to become very aggressive then. The food can be a bit greasy but overall we're thankful to have Choga here.…
