Despite the fact that during my only other experience at a Mario Tricoci salon (in KC,MO), I was treated to my worst haircut ever, I decided to give the salon at Town Center a try. The main draw was the fact that it was open on a Sunday. Now, having returned from what is undoubtedly my second worst haircut ever, I think I'll just work around the regular hours of my usual salon. The employees at Mario Tricoci attempted to cultivate a snotty atmosphere, which is just plain irritating and wholly unwarranted. I can't stand it when the check-in process becomes some sort of test of my salon-worthiness. When I gave my information, the person behind the desk condescendingly corrected me on the name of my stylist. As he discovered, though, I was correct, or at least had been -- my appointment was changed from one stylist to another, without my consultation or approval. This has never happened to me, and it doesn't seem like a professional policy. Perhaps if the first stylist had cut my hair, I wouldn't be writing this. The stylist I wound up with did not have very good client rapport at all. She did not listen to me (Why would she ask me if I want my short hair cut to above my ears -- which I did -- if she's going to only cut it to mid-ear anyhow?), she did not closely examine the photos I brought to help with defining the haircut (Did any of them show 70's style feathering? I think not), and she rushed me out of the chair at the end without asking what I thought of the cut. She did not even offer me a mirror and allow me to look at the back and sides of my hair (Hmmm, oversight or an attempt to keep things out of sight? A quick study at home cleared up that mystery.) The stylist did, however, go out of her way to apply above and beyond the normal amount of styling products. Ick. Maybe, if I didn't know any better, I'd put up with this sort of salon experience. As it is, I know that there are much better options out there, and I'm worth it. We all are.

Pros: extended hours

Cons: substandard service

It's such a PITA to go there. I finally quit going. I hate the fact that your stylist does not see you when you get your hair colored. It's ok if you're getting the same thing everytime, but if I'm changing my cut, wouldn't it be reasonable to think my stylist wants input on my color? Also, charging to blow-dry your OWN hair after a color (if you're not having a cut afterwards)? I'm sorry, but if I spend over $150 for a color, I expect to walk out of the salon looking "finished". I walked out with soaking wet hair rather than pay. It wasn't the money, it was the principle. For supposedly an upscale place, over the last 7 years (on/off customer), it has really gone downhill. I will no longer go back for any reason.

Pros: My stylist (before she left) was good.

Cons: The whole process of color, wash and style needs improvement.
