Average food, terrible BBQ. We resorted to Smokin' Joe's on a Sunday night after a Chiefs game when we didn't feel like waiting in the perpetual line at Gates BBQ (we have not tried Gates BBQ yet – in large part to the unmoving line). Pulling into the empty parking lot should have told us everything we needed to know about Smokin’ Joes, but we were hungry and decided to try it anyway.

What a mistake that was.

We ordered a burnt end dinner and “The Big Joe” sandwich. The burnt end dinner was poorly overcooked pot roast at best and pig slop at worst. The Big Joe sandwich was just a bunch of sliced meat on bread and was okay, if you weren’t looking for BBQ. The meat has no smoke flavor and we doubted very much if it was even smoked.

The sauce at Smokin’ Joe’s is just terrible. To give you an idea of what this “BBQ” sauce tastes like, imagine taking all of the noodles out of canned Spaghetti O’s and eating just the sauce. This is bad enough by itself, but why would you imagine putting it on meat?

All in all, Smokin’ Joe’s is average food and terrible BBQ. The cole slaw was good, though.

Wonderful BBQ. When we want BBQ and aren't near Arthur Bryants, we go to Smokin' Joes. They have a great lunch special and their hot BBQ sauce is the best BBQ sauce we have ever had! Their burnt end sandwich is one of our favorites. The fries are always cooked just right and hot!

Best in Olathe. The BBQ meat is smoked just right. The burnt ends are about the best. Their sauce is very good and the hot variety has just the right kick.

The two sides you must try are the onion rings and the cole slaw. The rings are fried golden brown and are the best in the area. The cole slaw is a family recipe and is excellent. You'll want to take some home.

Just 1/2 mile east of the Courthouse on Santa Fe St.

Great BBQ. We almost always eat at Smokin' Joes for lunch. They offer great lunch specials at reasonable prices. Always a favorite for the work crew.

Top 3 bbq's in Olathe. smokin joes is a great lunch stop for under 10$ the meat is cut medium to thick and is decently applyed the fries are good but not the best all in all it is just a small bussness that is a good place for lunch or even dinner.
