worst customer service ever. this used to be my favorite bakery. we would drive 45 minutes to go there. but recently I called and left a message to order for christmas eve. i left 2 contact numbers and asked to be called if there was a problem. I even called later in the day and left a message again. never heard frm them. called on friday to see if order was ready. man mumbled something i thought he was asking for my name so i gave it to him, he said yeah yeah. so we drove out there only to find no order was ready. when the counter person asked him he said i never gave my name, i said yes i did. he called me a lier. ok , i guess i just enjoy driving 45 minutes for nothing. he continued to call me a lier. i will be finding another bakery where they know how to treat the people who pay them. there have been other times when he wasnt friendly but this really was the final straw for me. you dont call your customers liers when they are only wanting to pick up a cake they thought you had made.

super duper povitica. Best povitica this side of the Mississippi! Current owners Patty and Don are just a lovely and charming couple and I feel as though I'm coming home when I'm in Waldo. Customer service is impeccable as there are always people going in and out making purchases but never a line.

Stay away!. I have attempted to go here on several occasions over the past year or so. Each time the customer service gets worse. The first time I ordered some danish. I asked for them to be put in a box so that the danishs would not get mushed together ect and they told me they only put danishs in a box if a dozen was ordered! So the 8 I wanted were put in one bag and smushed by the time I got to the office.

Another time I went in and wanted to order a cake. My mother can not have a lot of sugar, so I asked if they could make a cake with a shipped topiing bersus buttercream and the man who was talking to me told me they do not do that and when I asked if they could do a special order he was rude and told me that I apparently didn't "hear" him and he turned around and left to the back. We were in the middle of a conversation!

The last time I went in, in was about six months since my last visit, and I wanted to place an order for some baked goods. The woman was very rude, basically ignored me at first, and then when I pushed to try to get her attention, she just got ruder. I left without placing the order, and got the ordered filled at Sams for less. I love supporting family business of corporate chains, but this was the last time I will try to go there. They need to learn to serve their customers and treat them right.

Absolute best bakery in town!. McClains is truly an institution. It does seem that the new owners have a bit to learn about customer service, and business management, but the quality of the bakery is nonetheless, exactly as it has been for the past 45 years. If others say that the products are different, that is simply not true.

When I was a little girl, (I'm 55 now), we lived within blocks of McClains. Mrs. McClain was a very dear and lovely woman, who was very kind to my mother. I remember the pineapple breakfast danish for which they are well known, as a favorite. They're the same now as they when I was 7.

Let's hope wish the new owners much success so we can continue to enjoy the great sweet treats that they offer!

Pitiful. Ruined my baby shower. Poor quality.. I was extremely disappointed with the cake I ordered from McLain's bakery this weekend. I too, like previous posters have used this bakery for years. I will definately never use it again. The cake was nothing like what I asked for, and even faxed a picture of to them. The baby on the cake had purple eyes. Purple eyes?! How many babies do you know that have purple eyes?? I cried when I saw this overpriced cake that I had to work into the budget because I knew it would be remarkable. $60 for a cake I should've gotten at Price Chopper for 1/3 of the price.

Very Sad State of Affairs. Awful experience. first of all Im a Waldo area native. I remember going to McClains frequently as a kid. I remember days on Saturday when you couldnt get in the door, they had 4 or 5 ladies serving all the customers. On this day (it was fairly early in the day) the store was only half stocked, the people that I assume were the owners acted like they didnt care. I visited a couple weeks ago with my mom (first time in a couple years) I didnt know that it had been sold by the McClain family. The man that was sitting in the corner with his head between headphones was one of the nastiest, rudest people Ive ever dealt with. The lady that was working the counter acted like we were interrupting her day, the place was a mess. It is awful what these horrible people have done to the McClain legacy. Highly doubtful that I will ever return

Bad ethics.....treat employees very bad!!. I was one of a few customers in Mclains bakery couple weeks ago. There was on older lady working as fast as she could. But the health Dept was also there being rude to her. And then the owner (I believe) came in. After he was done with the health dept, he started cursing the elderly lady that was working for him. And in back we all heard him screaming at her, and calling her the B....... word. And throwing very loud pans I believe. When she came back up she was crying, and a couple of us asked her if she was ok, and if that man just fired her over his own problems. And she said yes, so me and another couple gave her our numbers as wittnesses to what had happened to her. I am suprised he did not give her a heart attack..... I then turned and left.

Nastiest Bakery in Kansas City or even further!!!!!. I went into this bakery and was ordering a cake, and the lady said she had to ask someone a question on my order. So she then walked over to an older man that was sitting down at a desk and as he turned (with his uncleaned body) he was listineing to her as he scratched his crotch area. And let me say I do not think he wears underwear. If that helps the picture. I ask the lady who he was and she said he was the owner of the bakery. He walked over being nice, but with the HIGH smell of extreme alcohol, he started to talk. But if he is the owner, I can only imagine the bakers and the other people who handle our food in the back. I never finished my order. I just said that I had to think about it and left.

bad customer service. I also experienced poor customer service at McLain's a few montha ago. I had ordered a cake from there during the week and was set to pick it up at noon on Saturday. I was out Saturday morning running errands with my infant daughter and around 12:25 got a call from my husband on my cell phone saying that a lady from McLain's had called and sounded annoyed and said I was suppose to pick up my cake at noon and someone needed to get there immediately to pick it up b/c they were trying to close. I know I was a little late, but geesh. I raced over there and was there by 12:35. The sign on the door said they were open until 2pm. I believe it was the owner who helped me when I got there, and older woman with glasses. I said I was there to pick up my cake and she rolled her eyes, I apologized for being late, she didn't say one word, I said thanks at the end of the transaction, still not one word. She didn't say one word to me the entire time she ran me up! No hello, no it's ok, no you're welcome, nothing....all I got was an eye roll. The cake was good, but I won't go there again because she was so rude. Mean, old lady.
