Worst Service Ever

by Craig CAmpbell at Citysearch

I have never written a restaurant review before but, this place is such a complete waste of time and money that I owe it to others who may be considering dining at Harus. I took my family of 5 to Harus on Sunday, September 4, 2011. We were seated promptly. Then we sat for 15 minutes waiting for a server. After realizing that we were not going to be waited on without saying something to somebody, I went back to the hostess stand to let them know that we had not seen a server. By the time I got back to our hibachi table another couple had been seated at our table. After letting the hostess know about the lack of service, we did have a server come by our table and take a drink order. When drinks were served to our table they were served to the new couple that had just been seated but, not to our family. I told my wife that that was enough and we got up and walked out. This restaurant is very poorly managed and has very poor service. This was a busy night and they only had one hibachi chef. The service is awful and the staff does not appear to care. I called later that evening and asked for the owner. Ofcourse he was not there I was told his name is Tony. You can bet that I will call him and let him know of this awful experience.

Complete waste of time and money!

by CosmicCupl at Citysearch

I usually don't write reviews for anything, but the service and food at Haru's prompted me to register and offer my opinion.

We called this restaurant at 11:30am and placed a carry-out order for 4:30pm, which is when they re-open. We were told that it would be ready for pick up at 4:30pm but ended up waiting for an extra 30 minutes, with no apologies offered.

The sushi was sub-par, something I could have picked up off a Chinese buffet or out of the local grocers freezer. Rubbery and no flavor, and very small portions.

I was hoping that the shrimp scallop toast would be redeeming, but it was undercooked and greasy. I'm not sure it contained shrimp or scallops either.

PLEASE save your money and drive to Siki Sushi in Lee's Summit. The BEST sushi, service, and prices anywhere!

Worst Service in Town

by kcfoodlover3 at Citysearch

We went to Haru's for a New Year's meal. We couldn't sit at one of the stations because they were booked according to the hostess. We were told we could get the same food at on the of the tables so we decided to stay. I ordered sushu and the regular hot meal and my husband ordered the steak and shrimp. The waitress took our order and delivered our wine. We didn't see her again until she brought our soup and salad. No inquiry regarding whether we liked our wines or not. Then we got our meals. My steak was cold and over cooked. ( I had asked for medium rare) I then received my sushu. My husband's food was way warmer than mine. We had her box up my food and I ate on my husband's and my sushu. The waitress then gave us our check. She never asked us if we wanted more wine or if there was anything she could do to make it right with us. I saw the owner walking around and talking to everybody else but he never came to our table to ask how things were. It had been a while since we had been to Haru's but after this experience I don't plan on going back any time soon. Sorry Haru's - you've just lost my business.

WORD OF MOUTH TREASURE

by MikeL4 at Citysearch

We have been going to Haru's for a few years now, sometimes 2-3x a week. Tony is the owner behind the Sushi Bar, and once you get to know him and/or he knows you is when the fun begins. I cant remember the last time we actually placed an order as he is so fast at making NEW and UNIQUE dishes everytime we come in. As a first timer you may not experince this and after reading some of the reviews people have posted, I dont completely agree with any. This restaurant has everything for everyone. The service is very polite and helpful although sometime with new staff they arent always that way to start. The best time to go are THUR-FRI and SAT night, (Tony is usually there behind sushi bar) and this is also when his shipments come in and are the freshest.

If you have been there once, and havent been again, I would defintely recommend going and you have to sit at the Sushi Bar. If Tony isnt there then Lewis is also great.

  • Pros: Great Sushi, Great Staff, Inviting Atmosphere/Romantic
  • Cons: not really sure of any

HORRIBLE!!!

by KCRed at Citysearch

I went to Haru's with three co-workers for lunch. We ordered food and two got food after about 10 minutes then myself and another waited over 30 minutes for our food (just sushi rolls). The manager came out and told us that our ticket would be taken care of and that he was sorry about the wait. We got our food, got our tickets...but the tickets were not taken care of. When we told the waitress what the manager said, he rushed to our table, and told us that he would not take of our tickets and that he didn't care if we had to wait or if we were going to be late for lunch and there was nothing he could do. I told him if he was the manager, he should be able to keep his word and take care of it, but he said no and abruptly walked away. The other co-worker went to him and tried to reason with him, as that is what he had told us...but he just told him he didn't care if he had our business and left. This will be the LAST time I go there...and will never recommend this restaurant to anyone again. Sakura on 75th and Quivira is much better price and friendly staff. Kona Grill on the Plaza is also very good, but more pricey unless you go to happy hour. Please do not go to Haru's.

  • Pros: Clean
  • Cons: Rude manager, long wait time, expensive
