Fabulous Mexican – We go to Dos Reales all the time for authentic Mexican food at a great price. It IS kid-friendly, and there are always kids there. I feel like the portions are large, and I eat @ Jose Peppers a lot too and there's not much difference... My Mom used to live in Mexico & was very impressed by the authenticity of this place. Service is good/ok, depending on who you get, but no real complaints yet out of many a visit!!
Not so Vegetarian – I love Dos Reales and have been eating there for a few years. One of the reasons that they are my favorite is because they have a separate section on the menu for vegetarian options, which as a vegetarian I greatly appreciate. The burrito and fajitas are what I usually order. One day however, I decided to ask about the beans and rice, just to make sure they didn't contain lard or chicken stock. I know the menu said vegetarian, but I wanted to make absolute sure. Came to find out the rice is made with chicken stock. The manager gave me some lame excuse about 75% of vegetarians eating fish and chicken!!! Come on, get real. Hopefully, they change the recipe or at least change the wording on the menu. They did offer me steamed white rice, but that's not what you really want when eating mexican food. A last word of caution: the server will usually tell you that the rice doesn't contain chicken stock until you press and ask "are you sure?". Then they will ask someone and find out the true answer.
GO THERE!!! – well my mom is the manager of this place nd its the best ever they habe the best tacos nd burritos ooooo nd the chesee dip is the best!!!!
OK Authentic Mexican – Service was really really really slow. Food was ok, somewhat small portions in comparison to Jose Peppers. Salsa tastes like tomatoe sauce. Good decor and great margaritas though. Not very kid-friendly.
The best Mexican Restaurant!!! – Dos Reales is the best authentic Mexican food in town.
Each time I've eaten there I've had nothing but good service, and the food is always hot, and fast to come out!
I would recommend any and every body to eat at Dos Reales!!
I used to love it...until – I used to go all of the time until one day they started charging 1.99 for each glass of orchata and never did let me know or change the menu... needless to say I paid for the food but not the additional glasses of orchata....
It has passed several months and I called in a To Go order when I got my order it was missing several items and I had ordered it for a party I was going to and I asked to speak to the person who took my order and Maria came out and I reminded her of my order and she said "oh you want to reorder the items now"? I said no I want your managers name and phone number and your name too.... she got really rude and started speaking Spanish to the other girl behind the counter imagine her surprise when she got done and I started speaking right back at her in Spanish and believe me it was nothing nice that she had said, I told her that like me my parents are from Spain but I am Bi-Lingual and never to talk about someone in that manner unless you know they really can not understand you and then it is better to do as I leave...
I thought it was good.... – I thought this place was good until last night when I ordered a vegetarian plate consisting a corn toritilla filled with white cheese and a bean burrito. My toritilla with cheese also had a PENNY in it. YES, a one-cent penny, tails side up :( I showed my server and he said "do you want to scratch the order or do you want us to make another one." I had only eaten like 1/3 of my plate. I never received an "I'm sorry" or anything from a manager or anyone. They did take my $5 meal off of our $30 bill. Ridiculous
Crown Jewel of Mexican Restaurants – Whoever wrote that other review is either severely brain damaged or severely obese. They didn't refill your Soda? Boo Hoo. I am sure you'd had enough soda and they didn't want to contribute to your existing weight problems.
Dos Reales is one of the finest Mexican Restaurants in the State of Illinois and now thankfully they have branched out to Kansas where the fine citizens of this state can enjoy the wonderful bounty that includes my personal favorites, the Chicken Burrito Bravo (ask for extra bravo) or the bountiful Enchiladas Supremas (Now one more). The service is always friendly, and they will be sure to ask you if everything was okay as you pay your bill.
Dos Reales is the most popular dining establishment in the city of Champaign, Illinois...and now everyone here can enjoy it as well. Keep in mind that Dos Reales does a fine job of to-go orders, including all of the trimmings you could expect with your dine in meal. Overall I would say that more restaurants should be like Dos Reales, one of my favorite establishments in the world.
Terrible customer service, only decent food! – I would never recommend them! The food was okay - nothing spectacular for the prices. The service was BEYOND horrible. They messed up our order, told us the wrong thing when we asked if something was included in a certain dish (they told us it wasn't, it WAS), and never once asked how we were doing, if we wanted something else, or if we needed more to drink. At the end of the meal, when my cup had been empty for quite some time, I had to ask the waitress for more soda and she took my cup and NEVER RETURNED WITH IT! Awful dining experience.
