Coolest Place Ever!. While visiting friends in a nearby town, we took a ride to Platte City to eat at Shields Manor Bistro. What a treat! The food, service and the hosts were all incredible! Love the ambience and all of the attention to detail. DeDe and Max Shields, (she's the Chef and he's the Host), were awesome! You've got to put this spot on your list of places to dine, but make sure to call in advance since they have only limited seating. Very Cool!
A Unique Dining Experience.
Set in an old house in "far off" downtown Platte City (at least if you live in Johnson County or the "east side") ... this is definitely a special occasion place to dine. We've been there twice and the food was outstanding both times. The menu is very limited so be sure to ask "what's for dinner" when you make your reservation (you must make a reservation!).
Max is the host and DeDe oversees the kitchen. Make a point of asking to meet DeDe...she's delightful and very concerned that everything is right. If they have the shrimp with bleu cheese appetizer, GET IT! Even if you don't like bleu cheese! If you have a special request, make it known before ordering...
Now the things to be aware of...it is NOT inexpensive. Both times were were there the check was over $100 for two of us (including wine). There is no bar...so if you want a cocktail...plan ahead...like near the airport! The wine menu is limited...but there are some good selections. Plan on a leisurely dining experience....the wait staff is not too professional, but they are willing to please. Also, if not familiar with Platte City, be sure to ask for directions.
Finally, be sure to check out the restroom...it's a treat!
Epicurean delight!. I brought friends and they brought their friends. Great food whether it's a casual lunch or a candlelit dinner. The menu and ambience can't be beat on Friday and Saturday nights. The fresh flowers, wonderful food and warm hospitality make the trip to this circa 1850's home absolutely delightful. It is the perfect spot for celebrating a birthday or anniversary dinner. Sunday dinner from 11-2 is as fun as having fried chcken dinner at Grandma's house. Shields Manor Bistro has what we look for when dining out, so we will return every chance we get.
Terriffic!. It's a great place to meet with friends. The atmosphere is comfortable and the food is great. It'l like entertaining in your own home with out the hassle.
Elegance at a Fair Price. With so many wonderful things on the menu and the selections changing often, you'll enjoy dining in the elegant surroundings again and again and at a great price too!
