Worst Bar Experience of My Life – Went to ReVerse last night for a birthday party and received the worst treatment from a bar in my life.
The bartender downstairs was rude and possibly suicidal judging by how forlorn he looked while pouring each drink.
The staff, particularly a pre-pubescent looking gentleman with a severe Napoleon complex, treated his customers like scum and sicked his steroid-riddled bouncers on several passive customers with no apparent reason.
Said bouncers shoved and manhandled female patrons without hesitation.
If you like absurdly overpriced beer and watching the pathetic staff wield authority in the one place in their sad lives where they are in control, then ReVerse is the place for you.
I hope the bartender uses the $1 tip I gave him for a down payment on a sense of humor.
Great drinks and good food – Good prices for the plaza and good drinks. But the service is really bad. Has been for the last couple years I've been going there. Went there last night and the service sunk to a new low.
Avoid on Friday nights – You must be in a certain state of mind for this bar. I enjoyed the open windows in the summer with a rose water martini but really prefer La Bodega which I believe is owned by the same person. He does a great job on the menu, and the happy hours are both to check out. This would be the perfect time of year to stop by .
not that cool – I went to ReVerse after hearing about its design and "cool" scene. I had to double check the address and name because my experience was anything but memorable and hip. There were five tables total in the place and it took FOREVER to get our drinks not to mention food, which by the time the food arrived we weren't that thrilled. Presentation was sub-par and the decor is dated. NY style and beatnik feel? What? Would not go back.
A New York-style beatnik bar and bistro serving Spanish and Mediterranean cuisine in a hip scene. – The Scene
The deep-red ceiling and tabletops are the features that first catch the eye. While re:Verse may not be the place to sit and let the mind relax while eating, one should definitely visit to absorb the unique Beat Generation atmosphere.
Both taste and presentation are paramount. Even the fries are served with elegance, seasoned to perfection and spotted with clusters of roasted garlic. A simple grilled chicken breast sandwich tastes like much more. The Bleecker Street chicken sammy with roasted garlic creme fraiche, Port Salut cheese and roasted peppers is so good it will bring tears to your eyes. The supper menu includes more expensive provisions, like the grilled peppercorn-encrusted ahi tuna and the surf-and-turf filet and shrimp. Don't leave without trying dessert: The flourless chocolate cake does a good job countering the salt and garlic intake.
