What People Are Saying About Jins Sushi

Although this resturaunt is closed. It was indeed one of the best sushi joints in Kansas City. Sure, it didn't have the nicest atmosphere, the food was delicious. I was a very well known customer at this shop, I was very quite pleased with it. Chefs of today don't know the real art of sushi, but this owner did. This type of sushi was not made by an amateur, he was once a executive chef at one of the finest hotels in KC. So if you think you know food, and what's what. Try again. If you think this place is bad, then your probably a little too blind to see it's true value.

We always enjoy their japanese steakhouse and the chefs are always entertaining. However, I always enjoy going to these places for sushi and Jins is overpriced and not always fresh. If you're going with a large group for the steakhouse experience, this is a good place. If you want Sushi, there are better choices.

Seriously, this place looks fairly bad to most people. Tucked in a strip mall this tiny place had me curious. There were about 6 tables in total and the "decor" was simply not there. The old table with a slightly beat up TV playing Walker Texas Ranger made things worse. White plastic walls, unsure where to sit nor with any one to meet us as we came in, I wanted to leave. The husband saw a single person sitting at a desk and the man came quickly out with a genuine smile and so I stayed out of curiosity. I have been to several four star sushi restaurants in the past, so I was expecting something awful. Worse, there was the limited menu and it seemed only one person (I am assuming the owner Jin) worked there. My husband and I ordered a light lunch in case we needed to go elsewhere. One thing about traditional sushi restaurants, sushi can take quite a while to prepare, and we waited about fifteen minutes for our small order. After being served we were puzzled at how simple everything was presented. Granted it will not win any awards but it was very basic and clean in appearance. The several pieces of sushi and the two rolls we ordered were amazingly delicious and we were very surprised. Keep in mind I enjoy more traditional styles of sushi with more Japanese and less American flavor. So in that regard it was great. If you go here do not expect anything fancy at all. I have been to several local sushi restaurants. Samurai Chef Steak & Sushi was the best "American" sushi restaurant I had been to before Jin's. While the sushi was good, if pricey, and the atmosphere was great, though a bit noisy for me. There are no gimmicks at Jin's, its not trendy, there is no flash or dazzle, and Jin's does not have to. Its just simply great sushi and that is what I want, even if it's in a hole in the wall.
