In Short – State of the art meat lockers house short loins of beef, which are naturally dried for 14 days, then hand-cut and grilled to perfection for a flavorful and tender steak. An assortment of chilled and grilled seafood, including blue point oysters and cold baby lobsters, along with classic sandwiches and salads, are available as well. House-made deserts are prepared for temptation. Just try to resist the flourless, chocolate espresso cake or the velvety white-chocolate mousse.
Divine Food & Exceptional Service

The Capital Grille on the Country Club Plaza is one of the finer restaurants in Kansas City, and this shows in the high quality foods and top-notch service they provide. I've eaten steaks from the east coast, southwest, British Columbia and everywhere in between; you'll be hard presssed to find a better steak anywhere. Don't put too much stock in the reviews by people from D.C.; its clear they know nothing of quality meat. Of course the midwest is "cattle country" so its no surprise that the best quality steaks are available in KC. The lobster mac is an amazing accompaniment that you must try on your next visit.
- Pros: Excellent steaks, the best service and the lobster mac.
- Cons: Somewhat pricey, but expected for this level of service.
OK But .....

Capital Grille is good but for the price, the atmosphere and the food, it really is a 3 star place. In Washington, DC, I've encountered 'attitude' on a pretty regular basis. Their food for the price is really not up to par - reduce the price a notch or two and then, yes, it's good. The setting is very nice but taking the combo of all, it's a lot of hype in my opinion in their Washington, DC locations. Other places here are much better - it's that simple and true.
- Pros: service is good, food good but not great, power lunch yes
- Cons: price for what you get does not make it worth it
Significant disappointment.

Awful. I'm visiting from Washington DC where I have often eaten (happily) at the Capital Grille. This one was a pale imitation.
Here's the good news: we had no trouble finding a table at 7pm. Also, it so happens that I like second-hand smoke (seriously), so I rather enjoyed being near the guys smoking cigars in the bar area.
The bad news: The restaurant is dark and with the A/C running full blast in October it was freezing. Our waitress made a valiant effort to be professional but she was consistently slow or inadvertently inattentive. Ten minutes to get a glass of wine. Ten minutes to get the check. Our dinner -- considering the premium price -- was disgraceful. Steaks were huge but tasteless, and my guest's request for medium rare was met with a piece of uncooked meat. The potatoes au gratin were undercooked and chewy, the au gratin sauce was thin and tasteless, and the chef covered them with something resembling shake-and-bake crumbs. The glass of wine I ordered was served with perhaps two (small) fingers of wine in a huge glass -- my only thought was to send the waitress back to put more in the glass. All that and a tab over $125 (for two people, with one glass of wine apiece, no desserts). Sorry, but whoever is running the kitchen needs some refresher training.
My advice: go to Plaza III.
