An almost total waste of your money.. The pancakes were burned, the hash browns were burned and the toast tasted moldy. My omelet was okay, but nothing to write home about.

The coffee was horribly weak.

My buddy ordered a burger and when he asked her to put cheese on it, the waitress gave him a lecture on how he ordered a burger instead of a cheeseburger, rather than just putting cheese on the damn thing. He knew he ordered a burger, and didn't make a stink about it, he just decided later he wanted cheese.

Then she has the nerve to tell everyone she's busy because "the place is filling up", so she just drops the check. I guess she's the only one entitled to waste time.

I tipped her well, but kinda wish I hadn't. I'm always willing to set some an example for excellence, even though they are not. It's sad because this place has the potential to be truly great. But obviously nobody cares, they just slap it on the grill and dish it up. No quality, no "extra mile", no passion.

Never again.

A working-class neighborhood diner reminiscent of a cafe on an old highway.. The Scene


A classic diner with a horseshoe-shaped counter in the center and booths flanking the walls. Pictures line the walls from the restaurant's glory days when it sat along the main thoroughfare between the suburbs and downtown Kansas City.



The Food


The food is simple and mostly fried. Pork chops, chicken fried steak and hamburger steak come as lunch or breakfast. Mashed potatoes and gravy, vegetables and a salad accompany dinners. Add fries or onion rings to any sandwich and make it a basket. Breakfast offerings include bacon, eggs, biscuits and gravy and oatmeal. Also try the famous Dagwood's breakfast sandwich--two slabs of grilled Texas toast filled with eggs, hash browns, cheese and your choice of sausage, bacon or ham. The tasty breakfast burrito uses the same fillings but is wrapped in a tortilla.
