The Scene – Dimly lit to the point of being noirish, the darkness doesn't extend to the mood. Sitting down can be next to impossible--people tend to find a table and hold onto them throughout the night. No matter. The keyword is "lively," and once the musicians start, you'll be swaying hips and thumping your feet. – – The Booze and Food – With the upscale crowd it's no surprise that martinis (20 different types) are quite popular. There are also 25 domestic and foreign wines available by the glass. Bottled selections round out the handful of beers on tap. A full lunch…
It reopened

Someone did buy it and reopened it in November. It is better than ever. New food and drink menu's, new happy hour and new staff. All the regulars and great music are still there.
- Pros: Service and atmousphere
Greats place to meet people
by Fluffy55 at Citysearch
It used to be the best place in town, but it closed over a year ago. Too bad someone doesn't get it back up and going. I would if I had the money. It was one of the warmest, friendliest, and fun places in Kansas City. I spent about 17 years going there on Fridays after work. Best people I ever met were there.
- Pros: Wonderful place
- Cons: Not open anymore
Great place to hear live music!

Be sure and get there early or you may end up standing. Went on a Friday and heard some of the best Blues courtesy of Lonnie Mcfadden and Mark Lowery. Happy to hear they play every friday 5-8:30 or so with the second band starting shortly after. Get there before 9 and there is no admission, $5.00 afterwards. This place may be tiny but it is huge on character and the upscale crowd adds to it all. That said, our server was horrible and the food we tried (phoenix soup, soup du jour, crab cake sandwich and phoenix philly dip), either came out wrong or cold and all of it was the blandest food we have both ever had and left us both out of commission the next day due to illness. The other servers seemed more attentive to their tables and were more than happy to get drinks for us when we couldn't find our own server. Maybe we should have tried one of their $20.00 steaks but will eat someplace else in the future before we go.
- Pros: Atmosphere, talented musicians, crowd
- Cons: Food, beer Prices, our server
