Love the atmosphere!!!. Great music and drinks. Really fun place to brings friends.
Not necessarily....
Friday night jazz is the only reason to go.
Lonnie Mcfadden is good anywhere he plays.
Other nights - you wonder how it stays open. Food is a little less than average with their appetizers a peg lower still.
Uneven staff attitude.
Slight soil pipe leak in basement and that's where the restrooms are!
Burgers are actually good.
It reopened. Someone did buy it and reopened it in November. It is better than ever. New food and drink menu's, new happy hour and new staff. All the regulars and great music are still there.
Greats place to meet people. It used to be the best place in town, but it closed over a year ago. Too bad someone doesn't get it back up and going. I would if I had the money. It was one of the warmest, friendliest, and fun places in Kansas City. I spent about 17 years going there on Fridays after work. Best people I ever met were there.
Great place to hear live music!. Be sure and get there early or you may end up standing. Went on a Friday and heard some of the best Blues courtesy of Lonnie Mcfadden and Mark Lowery. Happy to hear they play every friday 5-8:30 or so with the second band starting shortly after. Get there before 9 and there is no admission, $5.00 afterwards. This place may be tiny but it is huge on character and the upscale crowd adds to it all. That said, our server was horrible and the food we tried (phoenix soup, soup du jour, crab cake sandwich and phoenix philly dip), either came out wrong or cold and all of it was the blandest food we have both ever had and left us both out of commission the next day due to illness. The other servers seemed more attentive to their tables and were more than happy to get drinks for us when we couldn't find our own server. Maybe we should have tried one of their $20.00 steaks but will eat someplace else in the future before we go.
good vibe all the time. this is my fav spot to go and it's always a balst no matter what time of day. everything is excelent from the food, drink, customers and music.
A nice Saturday night. I was kind of familiar with The Phoenix but had never stopped in for the evening. The Citysearch recommendation was excellent, and all of the ratings were unanimously positive. My girlfriend and I decided to try it and we were happy we did. Our seats were not totally desireable, but finding a seat is a miracle to begin with. It's a good place for drinks and music---although a little bit pricey ($7 martinis...although quite good). Oh... and we managed to arrive right before the set---so we missed the cover charge....that was nice.
Ila. My husband and I have the opportunity to stay in downtown KC about twice each year. Each time we go to the Phoenix the waitress Kelly remembers us! The service is excellent, and the food & drinks tasty - the entertainment is well worth the stop.
Grab a meal and a martini and take in some of the city's best live jazz at this upscale spot..
The Scene
Dimly lit to the point of being noirish, the darkness doesn't extend to the mood. Sitting down can be next to impossible--people tend to find a table and hold onto them throughout the night. No matter. The keyword is "lively," and once the musicians start, you'll be swaying hips and thumping your feet.
The Booze and Food
With the upscale crowd it's no surprise that martinis (20 different types) are quite popular. There are also 25 domestic and foreign wines available by the glass. Bottled selections round out the handful of beers on tap. A full lunch menu focuses on salads and sandwiches, and dinner features fresh seafood, steaks and pasta.
This place is Kansas City Jazz!. Great music, fun atmosphere, fun and friendly people! A kansas City delight!!!
